Gear Box Problem... Reverse gear not working. (E46 Valvetronic)

Hi Jarance, thanks for yr reply.

What we've check so far is:
1. Fuel pump
2. Wiring
3. Fuel pump relay
4. Fuses
5. Spark plug firing
6. Immobiliser/key problem
7. DME

So far No. 1-5 has been eliminated. No. 6-7 will know outcome by tomorrow (hopefully). Gave him all my keys to do reprogramming, and according to him using GT1 (Pls. advise, so that am not being BS by him).

And if that fails, then it'll be problem No.7. And that would cost a whopping RM5k Does it cost that much? Pls. advise. Thanks.

DME or immobiliser seldom fail. change the crankshaft sensor first. It will cost you about RM150 to RM180.
Unless you can borrow a DME to test and return if it not the problem, do not change it.

Note: Plz check the thread and E46 maintenance.. There is hardly anyone who change this DME.

Yes, changing the DME is the very last resort.

Anyway, just got my car back... finally. Apparently 1 of my keys was faulty. According to him, the chip in the key is spoilt. He reprogrammed the keys and DME (I think). Total damage is RM1330 (Plus engine oil change + oil filter). Will let u guys know the break down when I see the bill.

He also told me not to stick the faulty key in as in will screw up the DME.

Here's the problem, this fella needs to be beaten for information. I don't think he'll let me in on this. What's more frustrating is he doesn't give me details of the problem.

Anyway, after yesterday, I don't think I'll send her back there again. Most of the time I'm kept in the dark, and I just can't stand it!

But lucky there's forums like this to help ppl like me get more info so mech cannot take me for a fool. I bombarder him with questions supplied by your goodself and also from Mr. Planta. Very helpful indeed. At times I felt he was a bit intimidated by those questions.
