Breaking news: From today, RON95 and diesel will start inching up, a 5 sen increase for a start. RON97 will be at market price managed by the APM (Automated Pricing Mechanism)

It's high time for fuel pricing to become more realistic.

that goes for car prices too in this country.....

Aiyo..wont make a difference la. rm5 in difference. 1 packet of rokok also cannot cover.

make a whole lot of difference...when food, transport, and all things related with fuel went up......

Norway is also a world leader in alternative energy technologies. Their energy policies are tergetted at conserving their oil resources for future generations.

5 sen is only the first increase...to soften the blow. Expect more increases as time wears on.

Atleast some ethical retailers and food stalls maintain their prices... But I guess the chain effect is just a couple of weeks, infact days away..... The inevitable.... Drive faster lo... safe more fuel on inersia.... hehehe

For the politically-minded, no one in the opposition has said today that the move to rationalise subsidies is the wrong thing to do. They would probably do the same, probably even faster. Rather, they've commented on how the savings should be spent, or should not be spent.

It's high time that our fiscal policies recognise that oil resources are finite, and are on the decline throughout the world. It WILL run out. I only wish the world's largest and most profligate consumer of oil (the US) would move in this direction too.

I agree with what Schwepps says on the rationalization of oil subsidies.

However, we need to keep in mind points noted by NCH as well. We can do away with subsidies...provided that other things, especially per capita income need to go up, public transportation needs to be top class, etc before removing subsidies entirely. Many middle income earners and poor income groups will suffer indefinitely. Not because their fuel cost increase but the snowball effect of this happening.

Wise decision but at a damn wrong time!

Will there ever be a right time fiscally and politically? Let's recognise the political suicide being committed here to start doing the right thing, when it would be much easier to continue the subsidies, run at 7% deficits, and keep everyone happy.

We all talk about public transportation, but let's ask ourselves honestly whether we will use it even if it IS top class. We who love our cars to death and will drive 200m to the 7-eleven or bank rather than walk it. We who will haphazardly park and block everyone just to be kiasu and save walking a few steps more.

If you take into account our oil resources are running dry and everything, starting it now is a good but given the past records and the current billions spend into white elephants, personally the govt should tighten its own pocket before asking the rakyat to do so. Leadership by example. Nothing has been done, as least even on a perception basis.

At least I know I will if the infrastructure is good. Parking and all those kiasu attitude...that's another topic...

I don't know about you, but I don't particularly enjoy being stuck in traffic for 2 hours in the morning and evening. Thankfully that's a thing in the past for me now as my job gives me the flexibility of working from home.

If we ever, ever have a world class public transportation I will definitely be among those using it. :)

Park in a kiasu manner? And risk having my ride scratched? NOOOOO!

Perfect transportation means: bus/lrt/ktm/star and etc stop within walking distance throughout KL, Air conditioning, schedules, on time, friendly and efficient service, dedicated Bus lane, less retarded people who are trying to enter as rest of the train is trying to exit and etc etc etc basically, enjoyable experience, from the time you leave home and arrive to work.

If its perfect, why not use it? It'll save you precious time/money!

What is the difference if you are seated in BMW or Waja if you are stuck in jam? Pls don't tell me its handling.

Anyways, we can talk all day, its not going to happen anytime soon or ever, not before we change, but hey, its easier to blame big G.

I don't know about "WE", but I, normally walk as far as 1-2 km to the shops and back, regardless how tired i might be. To me, its not worth driving.

As for illegal parking, well, that is where DBKL and similar councils come into play, unfortunately issued fines, are not worthy of toilet paper (sorry to say, but its true).

Would you behave like that if you knew, that fine you get from DBKL has to be paid OR you can not renew your road tax/driving license/passport/buy air ticket, there are no discounts and there is interest on outstanding fines?

If you say NO, than you YOURSELF taking advantage of G's incompetence.

Hi kgb! Good one about that quip on 'handling'....2 inches moved to the front....now able to move the car 3 inches front and 1 inch sideways....my two hours test drive in this traffic jam in downtown KL test driving the brand new ..let's say F11...is phenomenal! Wait till all the readers read my F11 review! Sublime handling in this teeth-to-teeth gridlock!!:stupid:

Good for you, kgb. I use my 27-speed paddle shift mountain bike for trips to the shops. It's actually quicker and more fun than driving and parking. :)

Wait for the new batch of up-tuned 320d or 520d...184hp and 380Nm version of BMW’s single turbocharged 4-potter diesel engine... :listen::top: fill up every 1000km for the 520d's full tank. Spend 105 ringgit for 1000km...not bad huh? and power and torque u crave for...tekan tekan tekan still cannot see the fuel needle move!
