Breaking news: From today, RON95 and diesel will start inching up, a 5 sen increase for a start. RON97 will be at market price managed by the APM (Automated Pricing Mechanism)It's high time for fuel pricing to become more realistic.

Aiyoo, 4 potter eat more fuel la.. die! Maybe should consider 6 potter.. :p

I don't believe there's a subsidy at all. The "subsidy" is just a method the govt use to squeeze the rakyats for extra money, after making us pay exorbitantly for our cars.

Realistic fuel price? Refer to other oil-producing nations:

(as on June 2008)

UAE– RM1.19/litre
Eygpt– RM1.03/litre
Bahrain– RM0.87/litre
Qatar– RM0.68/litre
Kuwait– RM0.67/litre
Saudi Arabia– RM0.38/litre
Iran– RM0.35/litre
Nigeria– RM0.32/litre
Turkmenistan– RM0.25/litre
Venezuela– RM0.16/litre

Sounds like a rip-off?

Do we want to be among the countries that are the most irresponsible in energy conservation? Our oil reserves are already on the decline and will run out in our lifetimes. We should make it last as long as possible.

I am always for a more realistic , less manipulated (subsidised or heavily taxed) pricing schemes for anything not just for fuel. What about car prices ? SUCKS

If our country does not produce oil, I'm happy to pay RM 4 per liter as long as we're paying the real price.

Yes, "manipulated" is the word. The subsidy is used to manipulate fuel price. Billions of RM are cashed in for every price increase, but we have no say in how the money is being used.

We're ripped-ff on so many levels:

Exorbitant car prices
High petrol prices (compared to oil-producing nations)
Highway tolls

What I like about driving in Malaysia: Incompetent cops & JPJ.

I understand what you mean mate. Agree that we will consume more petrol if prices went down.

What's OK:

Increase fuel price to reduce demand and spend the extra money on sustainable energy R&D. Or to subsidize hybrid cars.

What's NOT OK:

Price has to be increased because the govt can't afford to subsidize anymore??? We have to pay the real price like Singapore, Indonedia, Australia, Thailand & Phillipines do? Come on man, we produce oil!! Just like how durians are cheaper in Malaysia & Thailand, than in UK & Japan.

If you haven't already done so, please register to VOTE.

Otherwise, live with it.

"It's like that wan lar ..."

Norway is also an oil producer but has the highest fuel prices in Europe, about 4x our price.

Personally I think people in Norway also earning average few time higher income compare to us...

But they have the world's best healthcare and lowest crime rates.

And higher education is free for all, including international students.

Just for comparison:

GDP (PPP) per capita (IMF 2009 data)

Norway US$ 52,561
Malaysia US$ 13,769

Their income is 4x as much.

Come on! Don't compare with Norway, we're Asians.
