Instead of puting downs my ideas or criticisms, don't you think the committee (past, present and future) could at least give it some thought and digest what I have to say...

If a motorcycle forum like SBM can achieve it I don't see why an 'exclusive' tag car forum like this one cannot...

So what if the premise (ei:clubhouse) does some kind of business (if possilble related to the nature of the forum) to generate revenue for the coffers?? That kind of committee definitely has my vote, rather than having its members shoulder the necessary (compulsory) revenue (fees) in order for the club to maintain its 'clubhouse' or its website...

Isn't imposing any sort of fee esp if its RM150 a year (not refering to minimal fee to keep the website up and running) some sort of 'segregation' no??

bro, you're looking at this all wrong. there are other car workshops that also have a club and this is to promote brand loyalty and good for business. Members also get 10-20% off service charges, parts, etc. Another example is FA Italia. Bottom line is, this is all done to create more business.

The BMW Club Malaysia it is not run like a business just like this forum. As a forumer, you are most welcome to join the teh tarik gatherings and pay for your own drinks.

You are also welcome to the monthly drives organized but money is also needed for the day to day running of the activities which is why we have membership fees where you are free to join or not.

Registration is $150. Yearly membership is also $150 but have you considered the stuff that come with it.ie. club shirt, keychain, cap, etc, etc, etc.

To make the membership more interesting, the committee has also worked on sponsorship from Castrol and new registration gets 2 cans of minyak engine worth $300 (???). Renewal of membership also dapat new club shirt, club cap, etc...and 1 can of Castrol oil

Doesn't that practically cover your registration and membership cost....basically, you're getting more than what you paid for...so apa lagi lu mau, kawan? you want the club to give you money to join???

"...ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country." J. F. Kennedy [1917 - 1963] Inaugural Address, Jan 20 1961

And in your case bro,

"Ask not what this club can do for you -- ask what you can do for this club."

Lots of people have condemn the very club that they have free-loaded from and at times [many times for some who had made this Club's forum into one of their channels for commercial postings... you know who you are!] benefitted from.

Today... look deep into yourself in front of the mirror and ask... what is this all about? What am I doing? Who am I to be in this forum and ruffle feathers when I am even not a registered club member?

To make changes, you have to be committed to change. To change others, you need to change. So why not make the changes together, make the commitment to the change by making the first step... change and be a registered club member.

Why I am doing this? It is the first thing that I am doing after getting up from bed, straight to my computer... read this thread and typed this reply.

It is because I am passionate in what I do. I protect the things/people that I am passionate about. I commit myself to my passions.

And if you say you are passionate and proud of your marque... stand up, commit and be counted.

Or sit and be silent!

Looking at the posts here i can safely say that the passion is alive, all right! :)

Coming to the issue about a clubhouse. Lets just say for the sake of argument, that we have one. Not a problem, we can always rent/link up with someone/someplace/anytime. Yippie, we have a clubhouse!

Now, WHAT DO WE DO WITH IT?

A. If we are just going to use it for TT Sessions, then boring and a waste of resources lah. BTW who's going to make the drinks? - Must pay ah?

B. Turn it into a bar? That would be great if we want to remain in "uncle" mode, but some of our members like the kodok/prince charming chasing scene, something we already get in our HH sessions. Does anyone disagree? - BTW must pay ah?

C. Turn it into a complete workshop with hoist, tools etc. Assuming some mysterious benefactor gives the club RM1 million to buy equipment to service even the new 6-series, we can already do this at the mechanics we go to. - Wei still must pay ah?

D. If we use it as an outlet for selling things, we'll still have people saying that they can get the same stuff cheaper elsewhere (made in balakong as opposed to made in germany, but still cheap wat!) - Why must pay ah?

We can argue about this until the cows come home, but the main thing is to generate VALUE for our members. This is a car enthusiast club, and right now our clubhouse is everywhere. Just give us an open road, and we're on!

Peace all.

sheet lah. let's get a club house next to a pub/next to a workshop/next to spareparts shop (can get discount)/next to mamak shop (discount again)/next to sunway college (can cuci mata)/next to post office (can renew road tax)/next to puspakom (can buy n sell car)/next to bank (can get loan)/next to car trader (can trade in car)/next to starbucks/next to half cut shop (can project)/next to spa (buy 10, get 1 free)....apa macam? also...er...no need to pay for membership! ...and we get lots of freebies!sounds like heaven dei...!!

I dun think it is beneficial for this thread to go on. I would suggest mod to close it.

P/S: I pay membership just to talk CxxK in forum. hehehe:listen:

Bro Rifhamdi,

good suggestion above..... please pm your suggestion to the committee for their deliberations.....

better still, be a member and table the motion at the next AGM.....

a good constructive feedback presented in a good presentable manner....

if the clubhouse (if when we actually have one)does business to generate revenue to maintain the clubhouse is fine...but to tumpang orang punya kedai and call it a clubhouse, this is what we generally disagree.

Rifhamdi need not table this suggestion in person in the upcoming AGM if he chooses not to due to his reservations about being a club member. He can always appoint a proxy or work closely with an official member who also feels strongly about this matter.

May I suggest to go further and to come up with a business plan like proposal, basically a study on the pros and cons and the value added benefits to the members. It is only after doing a detailed study that you are able to present your arguments clearly rather than just saying "we should have a clubhouse and if others can do it, why can't we" argument.

when doing a clubhouse proposal do take into account a few factor already discussed...benefits/cost factor/who will run the clubhouse/what can we do with the clubhouse other than just a place of gathering/will the clubhouse have a video library/coffee maker/how often will we use the club/security/can we sublet and collect rent/sponsors/who will benefit directly and indirectly/how will the benefits be/local authority approvals/bomba approvals/etc/etc/etc....

note also that the clubhouse will need to cater to the aspirations of the members across the board and not a section or segment group.

sounds interesting , eh?

adoi..so malu! went 2 AB Sg Besi n they said..tada bmw club member form BUT got BMW White Card form only...haha!

Rifhamdi,

If you had joined as a member and expressed your views on the clubhouse, I would have taken what you had said seriously but standing on the sidelines freeloading and pointing out things that has already been thought of by the club when it was started initially makes me just want to ignore you.
It makes you ask so many questions just for the mere 150+ 150 ( eventhough the freebies cost as much or maybe more ) and I can't imagine what we would benefit getting a member like you signing up. Looks like "exclusivity" isn't your cup of tea..too bad..just stick to whatever you're stuck at!!!

forum via internet also have so much problems ...imagine having a club house ...!!

KISS : keep it simple sweet

RM150 annual fee shouldn't be an issue to a BMW owner wishing to be part of an official club. No justification necessary.

I had the pleasure of meeting up Audi VW club President last weekend when I was conducting the BMW Performance day event at APAC. Took the opportunity to enquire more about his club and what are the goodies offered and etc.

All that I can say is there is no car club in the country that is giving out what this club is doing. Likewise, in terms of events and being prominent in the local car club fraternity, BMW CLub Malaysia is doing great.

There will always be detractors that try to run down this club, even an old member tried to diss this club when I was chatting with the Audi VW president. As long as we continue to strive for the betterment of the club, and uphold the spirit that binds all of us together in the first place, nothing will stop us.

AS for the clubhouse, we have an offer from a dealer offering an exclusively designated space in the showroom (free coffee, wifi and facilities) for our usage. However, I have KIV-ed it as by doing so we may alienate other dealers whom have also supported this club in our events. It will be good to have our very OWN clubhouse in the future, it all boils down to the members as this club belongs to ALL of you.

Cheers

Aisay what a shame... It does sound like the ultimate clubhouse, being surrounded by BMWs, BMW Corporate image environment, office area use and free food, drinks and wifi. Take up the offer and be "open" to other dealer offerings for the following year heh.

Unlike most of the views posted, I do support the views of free membership privelages if possible for all, then there will be no bad blood between folks who paid and folks who didn't. Now it seems like either one party is the fool. Instad of official membership status, maybe a status of Club sponsor for those willing to contribute $$$ to the coffers. Resolves the issue of bad blood among forummers with regards to this specific issue. Anyway thats just my 0.02. Anyway, my utmost respect to the committee for the sacrifice made so far to make BMWCM what it is. A lot of behind the scenes voluntary work which most of us don't see. :top:

It was great fun to meet up (Grand TT 2006 @MMZ Shah Alam) when we were not 'segregated' based on those who paid or did not pay up in regards to the annual fee but this view was based on my personal observations.

Just to clarify, I personally don't believe in freeloading. I was even willing to contribute 'a little' towards the maintenance of this website. Group drives 'fund' will only be collected from individuals who wish to participate so that was not an issue to me then and now. You only pay if you want to join th egroup drives....Most of time, I can't really make it due to work commitments which is my main priority now.

But... as I have mentioned before, RM150 is really a big sum for me to cough up annually for the sake of some freebies, membership card and online status stating one is a full fledged 'paid up' member which will highlighted or 'exclusivity'... Similar sentiments was shared by most of the E21 guys when we met up informally quite somtime ago.
As I have stated before too, something which is practised/agreed by the majority does not always make the action right or the best thing to do likewise politically too.

So likewise John, that is the reason why I have not paid up (sign up) because I don't think I am going to benefit from being a member. I also don't believe in paying up to feel 'belonged' esp with a club which started its roots as an internet based enthusiast car club/forum. So if that does not make me any more exclusive or loss my exclusivity to most of you.... So be it!!

Cheers all
