On your engine vibration problem during idling, possible causes are:
1. engine mounting
2. MAF

Found out that the aircon compressor's pulley was actually vibrating when it kicks in. So, I guess that could be the source of vibration. Anyway, am going to replace the pulley, bearings of the compressor at Naidu on Saturday.

Other than that, I must say that after the seal been changed, the car didn't have the power lag. The acceleration is definitely smoother. As for fuel consumption, I'll monitor for the next couple of fill ups.

After I replaced my double vanos seals, low end torque improved and acceleration is smooth without any hesitation. However my FC did not improve at all. I was getting 12.7L/100km city driving and highway/outstation 11 L/100km. Checked with Beisan and was told most likely pre-cat O2 has degraded. After replacing O2 sensors, FC now is 11.8 L/100km (stop/start aggressive city driving) and 9L/100km highway/outstation.

Herbert,
What is the typical lifespan of the O2 sensor ? At what sort of mileage would it start to degrade ? Is the pre-cat O2 sensor more important than the post-cat as far as fuel consumption is concerned ?

Thanks

Typical lifespan I won't know as mine still working after 214k km but had degraded coz fuel consumption was rather high. I have seen some pre-cat O2 sensors going bad at 80k km as read out by GT1 computer. Bosch's web site suggest replacement of O2 sensors at 100k km. O2 sensor is more important that the post-cat for fuel consumption.

Bavarian Auto prices for pre-cat O2 sensor are (1) Original Bosch with BMW logo RM 1,200 per pc. (2) OEM Bosch RM 480.00 per pc.

John,

May i know how much is the cost to repair/change the pulley and bearings?

i think that my car has the same problem, once the compressor kicks in, the rpm will be slightly drop and vibrates, not like before.

thx

Did my seal replacement at albert last week.(Tq to ssmann for borrowing me ur vanos seal, and tq to Vincent Hor for introducing)..

tested to segamat on Sunday and i can say that...darn! i should do this earlier. hehe

the gear changes better without having to floor down the throttle, just 3/4 will do.

same feeling like when my dad acquired the car 11 years ago, at 30k mileage.

and Tq to Herbert for introducing this product to us.

Herbert,

I have not done my Vanos seals yet, but all the positive comments really get me thinking. My mileage is about 80K and I have changes the valve cover gasket less than 20K ago, if I change the seals I may have to change the gasket again.

What is your advice ?

Thanks

Unnecessary to change the valve cover gasket, but since then the valve cover is open, so u are recommended to change them too, same labor in one shot.

Though your mileage is 80K km, it is advisable to replace your vanos seals as the original seals would have degraded. Need not change the valve cover gasket but if you are uncomfortable to re-use the old gasket, by all means change it.

Hi all..
I'm just curious, is it normal if the vanos whistles (during hard acceleration)?
does that means that i would need to change the seals as well..
Very noob..

Cheers!

My ac compressor is beyond repair. Therefore I got a recon unit. Including of gas top-up, it cost me RM540. Mine is a E36 M52 engine..

Where did you get the recon unit from?

I got it from Naidu.
Is the price reasonable? I got a quotation from another workshop, stating recon compressor price only is RM600.

Bugger this naidu...last time asked him he said he only deal with new compressors. Don't like to use recon units.

Sounds ok la for that price.

Got a month warranty for it as well.

Last time I went to change my receiver drier and service, as my air con was not cold. But ended up have to change all the fan belts as they were not in a good condition. I was upset cos I didn't ask him to change.

All in damage... RM500.

bro you may try the shop next to Ah TEE tyre shop " the famous one along the sunway stretch ...

the shop is inbetween ahtee and JFA motorshop " the exhaust shop "

the price seems to be good too ...one to one exchange ..something like that ...for a refurbish unit ...looks almost 90% new ..that was the last i saw when doing my exhaust ...

they not only deal with compressors , but also with other parts ...etc alternators , starters etc etc ...

no harm trying ...

Guys,

Can we please confine this thread to its original title. Thanks.

I read that the valve can get dirty and sometime don't move smoothly. Also on M54 the solenoid is oscillated to sustain the desired oil pressure , so it does not just move in or out.
