Perhaps in a subtle way bmw is trying to help the aftermarket aka ICE industry again. In the past recent years ICE industry worldwide has suffered quite significantly. so by giving mediocre system, for people who crave more they have to turn to ICE tuners :)

to be honest, the B&O upgrade on the audi's are far too overrated, just like their home theatre systems. its good stuff but like those Beats by Dr. Dre headphones its not worth so much money.

One of the nice differences coming from a 10 year BMW ownership to Audi is the B&O system offered in the Audi. It's fully integrated, never overwhelming, beautifully tuned for the car and enhances the driving experience significantly. In the past I rarely use the audio system in my cars, but with the B&O, it's always on in the Audi. At minimum, BMW buyers here in Malaysia should be given the option to choose if they want the integrated HK or B&O system offered by BMW for their cars in other markets rather than being shoved with no other option for the buyer. The Mark Levinson, HK, BOSE and B&O OEM systems by BMW, Audi and Lexus gives a sense of quality and lifestyle beside just great sound. Some of the implementations have speakers which erect by themselves when you switch it on. Unnecessary but really cool to complete the overall ownership experience.

agreed, i wasnt impressed by audi's B&O in their a4 2.0.

the best stock sound system i've heard was in the 508. 508 has 10 JBL speakers and a Sub.

that set was amazing. powerful and decently accurate.
are you sure ... in the peugeot list for me it is the 407 having better setup ... could be due to smaller cabin size ... the 508 cabin is big and the sounds just lost in the big cabin ...

wonderful ... I also want one ...

a forumner mentioned that I can change the speaker which will enhance the sound quality ... I have registered with BSW and they will send me a mail when the F30 setup is completed ... in the mean time has to buy the F30 first ...

The E90 has good sound system with 2 subs under the seats, which was an improvement over the E46. The F30 now should be just as good sound quality wise if not better.
WOW ... 2 subs ...

Are the BSW speakers available here in KL as well? Are there any car audio shops here in KL who specialise in BMW sound upgrades?

I think I know the shop you're referring to. I sent them a message via facebook as well as left a message on their page but they haven't responded.

actually. actually.

panasonic speakers arent half as bad as the brand reputation plays out to be.

yes. they do make entry level goods. but they do have some really good products. heck, they even have some reference speakers in Japan.

however, i believe that the 9 speakers in our 328i are slightly better grade than the 320d. ive tried both. the 320d ones seem hollow in the mid-range.

I love Panasonic brand of telis, but nt the audio n Pana shud be oem fitted for all them Jap cars..."BMW"-,harman lah!!benggong punye Msia Bmw!!or at least leave the speaker fittings for self-mod!

How much would one spend to say fit a bimmer with a Harmon system. Maybe just front set of speakers with a pair of subs and the amp? A lot?

Funny, I'm pretty happy with my system the BMW Professional 12 speaker system which came with the f30 328i skd. Was shocked to learn its Panasonic. Even my friends have been rather complimentary. But you guys really burst my balloon with this revelation :) oh.. The way I set up the equalizer, turn up the bass a few notches. Sounds nicer

I find my F10 520d audio system boring too. Looking forward to replace it.

The amp is looped with I drive, so you are quite limited as far as upgrades are concerned. Splice any of the wires and warranty is void. The 320D sound is total crap, and i guess the same is going to be with 320i. 328 comes with a higher spec amp amp speakers.

I tend to agree that the 9 speaker "hi fi" setup in the 328i is not very "hi fi". The 10 speaker hi-fi setup in the E90 was much better. While i dont care which oem company makes the drivers ( e.g. Panasonic bla bla bla), its the sound quality that needs to deliver. To me there is a portion of bass frequncy that seem to be missing, like the equalisation setting that is not quite right. Don know if upgrading the drivers to audiophile brands - if size fits, may resolve it, since the car's acoustics comes into play too.

so far, in my experience the following cars have above average sound system:
- 508 (JBL speakers) My cheapest top rating
- GS350 (Mark Levinson - 17 speakers) My personal favourite. more accurate, warm and full.
- A7 (Bose speakers - 14 speakers) very very powerful sound. super bass control
- Range Rover Evoque (Meridian) strong accuracy

I've tried a few others which are branded but not great:
- Golf GTI (DYNaudio) poor sound accuracy.
- Ford Focus 2012 (Sony 9 speakers): no control of bass.

I'm rather happy with the f30 328i sound system. Between the HK and Pro, the lower end punch is like a boxer wearing glove and without glove.
