I just got myself an E46 sedan 2002 and i'm not too happy with the stock SC. I'm thinking of changing the front speaker to a supposedly "branded" new 2way 5inch component speaker + a subwoofer. all else HU etc remains unchanged. question is, would changing the front speaker and adding a subwoofer improve the SC? a nearby audio shop in kjaya recommended certain brand 'Maestro' speaker (anybody here using this brand?). claim they brought it in from germany and suppose to be good.i do not wish to go overboard spending on ICE but i need that xtra ommph on sound clarity (rather than too much bass), SC emphasis for the front passanger and driver only (as i drive alone most of the time). my budget is about 3k, would the above work?any suggestion, comments, input?

afazlee,
ur expectation on ICE q high bro, when talking abut clarity-music stage etc.
susah nk citer pasal sound kat sini. kita kena dengar & feel the music.
From system design - selection of HU/Ampli/Speakers - positioning of speakers - sound proofing
& tuning all inter-related & influence SQ.
Since ur taste is about the same as me, y not u just try CN audio ( see Kelvin ) sec 9 Shah Alam.

I'm no expert in ICE but pouring my thoughts through my experience and plans. The head unit itself is not the best as they can put in better amplifier. Changing the front speaker is a great idea if the existing speaker is stock which is craptastic. I would go for component as well to make use of the tweeter chamber. You will not get much bass from the front speakers because they lack airbox. Rear deck speakers can give you more bass but wouldnt replace a subwoofer. And if your rear deck speaker is stock and old, replace or disconnect them because they would trash the overall SQ.

Subwoofer would be great to necessary addition to supplement the lows.

Cheers

I have already disconnected and remove one of the rear deck speaker and will do the same with the other. I will get some sample speakers from a local manufacturer later this week to try out the sound and fit.

bro, i assume CN audio did yours, yes? i just need a bit improvement in the SQ. at the moment i had to shut off the rear speaker coz there's vibration noise (dunno if the speaker pecah or somethg at door panel) every time theres bass punch. i definitely pay a visit to CN, is there a landmark near sec 9 where this CN audio is located, or u have a number i can call? not too familiar with the area. thanks bro

I paid a visit to CN audio for an ICE fix few days back. Mentioned your name and Kelvin turned super friendly, must be some good business you gave him :). He was trying to recall things you did to your ICE an the explanation was just short of saying ur an ICE freak (lol n dats a complement)

Turn out my rear deck speakers kaput pecah oredi, and the front speakers altho still sound good almost in retirement state (9 year old d). So replace the back speaker with inexpensive 2-way speaker, and front ones with fairly good component speaker both "Maestro" brand, plus added an Alpine sub-woofer. Verdict : ok la, not too bad SQ, sound clarity improved but i'm still not satisfied with the mid-range. Probably go back there again later this week. :p

afazlee, what stock system do you have on your E46 ? There are 6 speakers (stereo), 10 speakers (HIFI) and 10 speakers (H/K) with sub-woofer.

Yes, CN audio tauke Kelvin is super friendly..my car did at him many times, and so the other company cars

This is exactly what im doing as well.. goin for SQ or SQL...

Going to install a Peerless HDS component or Focal Comp Set. They provide one of the best Musical/Instrument based Sound Drivers...

I only know a few brand that is under the advert or so call "Street branding" in Malaysia.. and if you do a proper reading there is A LOT of great and inexpensive brands (that once discovered become insanely expansive)

Things im planning are changing my Head unit to Alpine 9887 (it have "Imprint" capabilities) Also the HU can actually be an active setup...

A lot of this may sound German but to put it simpler ...

SQ (Sound Quality) are all about the reproduction of sound from the original recording. You do not want it be lost in transition, therefore you need to choose those drivers (speakers, etc) well.

Start by looking at expansive or insanely expansive brands you see on Malaysia Market and google it... you may be surprised how much it cause actually :)

Avoid brands that are based on SPL (tong tong tong

>xcrave,
wah ur a gud HQ bro.
HEARING QUALITY = Sound Quality.
Go for sinfoni ampli\speakers( the italia ) u wont b dissapointed with the SQ
as per wat u want bro. The HU, japanese can doit.
