macdaque, the lever is thicker and slightly different in design. Will snap some picture later. The 523 gear lever is similar to the lci e60.

Just did a comparison drive between the f10 523 and e60 525 sport. Set the f10 to ds and sport + mode, the car comes alive with the 8 speed close ratio gearbox transforming the car into a sport luxury saloon. In terms of driving pleasure, the f10 wins hand down. Throttle response and steering response were noticeably sharper. Around the u turn before heading back to glenmarie, the f10 can turn in sharper due to the active integral steering, very distinct difference to the e60 that will understeer much earlier.

Astroboy, 523 got no HUD even though the compartment is built in but it's empty la;)

On the way back set the drive mode back to comfort mode, feels like a merc ;p

Sounds like it's worth the price tag. :top:

Value is always a perception;)

But compared to the E250, in my biased opinion the 6 pot engine and 8 speed transmission is already worth the $$. No matter how powerful the turbocharged merc is, the 6 pot engine offers more refinement. ;)

Thanks a million for all that useful review. What's HUD, pardon me for the ignorance. So, you do mean "beat the crap out of the Merc" then? Fantastic!

Maybe should wait out for the 528i then?

Ditto, ditto, ditto.... a million times. :thefinger:

Agree fully, Al Bundy. An 8-speed 6-cyl is bound to be very refined, yet responsive. :top:

F30 got 8-speed or not? hehe.. :D :D

Wait.. if N52 can run the 8-speeder, the 325i N52 also can retrofit lor?! Wow~! You folks who uses N52 are damn lucky! :D :D

Albundy a better salesman than any of those in Auto Bavaria!!! Shouldn't put him as the Lead car, he should be the salesman convincing potential clients during the event.

Brouhahahaaaaaa....actually if I were to do sales during this event would have made some good $$. But my job is to spread the JOY of the new F10 and convinced these folks that JOY is not OVER-Rated:thefinger::burnout:

Anyway, I think the "host" is the best sales man la hehehe :)

macdaque, HUD = Heads Up Display that displays some information on the windscreen so you don't have to take your eyes off the road while driving but still be able to see some info like speed. Not sure what else is on there.

Hey guys, I've scanned in part of the F10 5 series brochure:

http://rapidshare.com/files/346938312/BMW_5_series_features.pdf.html

It contains a description and some pics of the options available.

If anyone has a better place to host it, please put it up.

The difference in the gear stick between the 523i and the 535i is that one is the automatic 8-speed, and the latter is the Sport automatic transmission.

Option 205 - Eight-speed automatic transmission with electronic gear selection and adaptive transmission management for very fast, immaculate gear changes.

Option 2TB - Eight-speed Sport automatic transmission features a sport mode with shortened shift times for a particularly sporty drive, as well as shift paddles on the sport leather steering wheel and a sporty gear selector design.

Another comparison of the F10 and E60 interior, the E60 is pale by comparison.

Kamion, I believe the 8 speed transmission offered in both the 523 and 535 are similar ZF units, perhaps the unit in the 535 is slightly upgraded for the additional torque, but they both feel very similar in terms of shifting speed.

Cheers

Hi AlBundy, take a look of the two automatic options in the brochure on the link I posted above. See if the picture of the gear selector designs are the same ones you see in the 523i and the 535i.

In your F10 photo above, it's definitely the 205 option code version.

The 535 gear selector is definitely different, its similar to the E60 530 if I remember correctly. Will snap a picture tomorrow. However, I believe the transmission is similar. The DCT transmission only comes in 7 speed, and in the new Z4 its also called sport automatic transmission, just want to make it clear that one offered in 535 is different from the new 335 and Z4 which is actually a DCT unit. :)

Cheers
