i have face the problem but i dont know this its normal or problem, everytime i park my car in the carpark and another day morning when i start the car i can feel the engine its shaking, when u off the aircond then will shake that not hard, its that normal on 325 engine? paul

It's not normal paul. The 325 is a silky smooth car even when cold.

The first thing to check are your engine mounts. Your car has been in storage for a year+ and the bushes may have hardened up. Now that it's in use again, the bushes may have cracked. Small matter to change the bushes under warranty.

BTW, don't let the SC tell you "it's normal lar". Contrast this to the service I got at the dealer when I took my Merc in for the end-of-warranty checkup.

SC: Your car vibrating isn't it?
Me: No...
SC: Yes la, your car vibrating la. I better change your engine mounts under warranty.
Me: (Bulb lights up) Oh ya! Vibrating like hell la!
SC writes in service order: "Engine vibrating badly"
:D

Must PM me if you want to know lar! Don't want to get him in trouble...

Imagine, he even changed my entire exhaust system from manifold to pipes although it wasn't giving any problems! 30k worth of new parts in the end.

bro its that the engine mouting problem? but when i press reserve or watever its very smooth only happen on cold start, so wat else i need to ask them check for me ? thanks

Of course many other things can also cause vibration such as timing out. But I would check the mounts first. I started my car cold, leaving for the office just now, and stood a pencil on end on the dashboard, so it's definitely not normal. ;)

i found out merc SC always did this good direction, because last time my father merc when warrenty went end then the SC change many things for him without any notice, so nice service, hope B M W can like this also.....maybe this its the way why BMW always loss MERC! wakakakaakakakak

Although not E90 related (but still a straight 6), this happens on my E46 325i since new also. I've gotten used to it and seems "normal" to me. Its like a rough V8 idle on cold start and smoothens out after half a minute or so. The ECU does a good job to prevent any stalling. Its doesnt happen on a warm/hot engine. Engine mounts have been changed and its still the same. I've attributed this to cold starts and the ACS exhaust. No other mods done engine-wise.

mean this its normal on 325 engine? but why some car have this happen and other not?

I dont think its normal. I've just learnt to live with it. Haha.

ps - My previous E36 325i didnt have this issue so i dont think its an inherent thing with all 325.

But 3er, frankly you shouldn't have to live with it. It shouldn't happen in any modern cars, let alone a lux car. There can be so many causes for engine vibration, all easily fixable: engine mounts, faulty sensors such as temp, O2, drive-shaft, causing wrong fuel air mix or wrong timing advance when cold, ECU settings, etc, etc. They're all fixable...

Schwepps,
Hm, true. Engine mounts have been changed, GT2 diagnostics didnt show any faults and its hard to reproduce unless i leave the car overnight at the mechanics (which i'm very reluctant to do so). In any case the engine mounts may not be the culprit. So for paulpaul2, you might want to check on those other points as Schwepps mentioned also. Do let us know what you find.

i am suffer to send my car to any workshop overnight too......dam it BMW! everytime bought BMW sure need live with the workshop!!!!!!!!!! next time if buy brand new car also like this, i will quit the UDM life! fuk

i guess its some timing setting or sensor fault if not that wont only vibrat on cold start, because last time my e46 i had try the engine mounting harder so when u push R that will vibrat so i dont think now my car was engine mounting problem, just hope that its small case......

I do experience similar engine vibration when starting if I left the car unused for sometime, but it normally last not more than 10 seconds.
