Just wanted to confirm something. My GB for my N42 leaks, havent fix that for about 1mth+, no time. Last Saturday, the car engine basically died off when i was reversing the car out from parking in the morning (starting the car after leaving it for about 8hrs). Can hear the GB groans a bit when i restart the car and continue reversing, same goes for Drive mode. The sound goes off after about 400meters of driving. Sound definitely doesnt come from engine as it was overhauled 2 mths ago. I sent my car to Auto Raco and asked them to fix the GB leaking prob, am suspecting that the reason behind d sound (happens for a week+ dyy) and reverse prob (only during last Sat) was due to lack of GB oil. Told Auto Raco to overhaul if need to, but they said, dont need to since they suspect leaking is just a minor prob with the seal.Based on reading in the forum and what my bro told me, overhaul cost about RM3k if no parts are being replaced, right? can go as much as RM7k if there's a need to replace parts (my bro told me a GB specialist said so) :)Anyway, just hope that prob with my GB is just due to lack of transmission oil LOLJust wanted to get advice and comments from experienced UDMers :)Thanks :)

bro the lack of ATF will basically destroy your gearbox. you need to get it fixed ASAP. Imagine metal rubbing each other without any lubricant. It will cause friction which in turn will cause the metal cog wheel to wear off prematurely. Basically you should drain out all the ATF & replace it. Drive for a couple of Km's & if the problem persist, then you have to overhaul your gearbox. At least you can still use back the ATF (provided there is no metal shavings). BTW if you are short on cash, a used gearbox might also be an option. check out places like mudah, i remember seeing a used 318i gearbox for sale.

First thing to check is the gear cable. If the position is out of order, you will get the same. Check this first before spending more money. However, a leaky gbox must be fixed immediately. Don't let it starve of gb oil

Thanks for the advice :)
As said, sent the car to workshop and trust that they will fix my GB prob :)
Will ask them to update me on the prob of my GB aside from leaking by evening

Got my car back from Auto Raco, fixed leaking prob, gearshift is now smoother than before :)
Cost me RM1.7k to fix it :) Luckily dun hafta overhaul :)
Here's the bill

Hi,
Yesterday i bought ATF (5 btls) + Gasket + filter from AB Subang cost RM390.
I see that they are charging you RM63 per bottlel and price from AB is only RM41. Thats RM22 diff per bottle, and if I m not wrong, 318i require only 5 bottle. That means 3 bottles should return back to you and maybay they can resell back hihiihi.

Believe the labour cost is in the price hike.

Rgds

Hmm..i see...
I will skip auto raco for maintenance next time...
Kept my car for 9 days (minus labour's day, wesak day n Sunday), took them 6 freaking days to fix it...
What i know is Suzuki swift also need 5 liters of gb oil...
Thought that the shop is honest, or give them the benefit of doubt, maybe the emptied my gb before refilling it with oil

8 Litres if you are doing flush... yes... but everything else is costly... well if the problem is solve give them the bonus as it could have been much more costlier...

Everything else is costly eh? Haha! yeah, at least no more headache now but i dun like d fact that they keep d car for too long, my engine overhaul with them took more than 3 weeks, if i remember correctly...
Thanks for the info :) Think will go to Bomin from now on, shud b a bit cheaper n heard that it's not bad :)
