by the way urs is N42 engine?. GM5 auto gearbox s a pain not like ZF that is robust..had the same issue like you before. i've checked that the main culprit for the high temp is the cooler. but unfortunately my GB was already in a bad shape then as i went back to my hometown without realizing it. so even after resolve the GB temp ( normal temp should be around 80c to 90c) my GB still gave problem to me.even changed torque converter but still not resolved till i opt to get a used GB.cost me about RM4000 total minus back the item that i have changed(torque converter). it's been almost 9 month now and everything is ok.

urs must be a ZF GB. if i i would opt for a rebuild than replace with used/recond gearbox

Thnks for the feed back, actually i means what kind of symptoms from your car makes your mechanic test your GB temp.

my car running smooth, just asked for advise from foreman coz found d fault code 'torgue converter clutch circuilt performance or stuck off' .

i got fed up with the stupid gb warning, even after rebuild, ended up i changed to a brand new gb.

more costly, but more peace of mind.

Bro, if u don't mind me asking what did the new gb cost u?

just wondering whether we still can get the same performance like original after rebuilt our gearbox even though change new internal part? I believe if change new original internal part the cost wont be so cheap :burnout:

doesn't feel quite the same after rebuild for mine. zf5hp18 on e34. facing problems with e46 5hp19 too and been holding off rebuild.
