The head gasket and maybe worst problem inside the engine. I solved my white smoke problem by changing to a 2nd hand engine. You will only know extend of problem when engine is opened up. I think you minimum need an overhaul.

Not to scare you but AFAIK the consumer tribunal only handle cases worth less than RM25k.

How much did you pay for your E46 2002 if you don't mind sharing?

Cheers

Really? Didnt know about that though..Will check and see how it goes. Got the car for 63k, about the same as the rest of the same year but a few thousand cheaper, i think.

I would be in the opinion that the case still stands in consumer tribunal. First of, Julian is not claiming for the purchase money back but reimbursement due the sold to him. The issue in contention is the costs of repairing the engine as i believe that he was informed before hand that the car did not require any major repair. Since the engine is now needed to be overhauled, i cautiously believe that any pros here would be agree that it is a major repair/service done to the engine/car itself.

Julian may still have a case there

Could be of course.

Maybe the engine only costs max RM10k then he will still legally have a valid claim case.

Cheers

I dont think that i'll have much problem with the claim with the car dealer, it's just gonna be the amount of the "claim".
Car should be out from workshop by this week, repair's slow thanks to the super busy shop.

Here are some of the pics

Hi,

Hope it is not too late to comment here. I have similar problems last time, and the symptoms are white smoke puffing out especially when engine is cold. as the engine is warmed to running temperature, it was lessen, but expect some occasional puffs at traffic lights stop. funny thing is, never spot any spills on the garage floor. ever.

I was topping up engine oil approximately 1 liter every fuelling period. that is kinda scary, looking at 450 to 500 km per fill up. so, my mech first try to change the gaskets, especially the top gasket. didnt really solved the problem. so, he had to top overhaul the engine, and replaced the valvetronic gaskets, oil filter rubbers, and some hoses that I couldnt identify. solved. power is back, engine is less noisy now and damage is around rm3k++. Mech is at Sentul/segambut area. he was once AB mechanic 20 years ago i think. haha.

now the car is running perfectly, with no trace of dirt on the engine bay experienced. FC is better too!

Well, thanks for the info bro. Actually the mech did show me the trapped oily stuffs which blocks the 'breathing holes' of the engine LOL
For the leaking, it's internal, engine to exhaust...everything is fixed now, gonna be put back into the car today.
Waiting for the bill which should be around 8k with other replacement part like worn out timing chain etc.

It looks like we are in the same boat, my engine is undergoing surgery right now....full overhaul plus new parts for air con system too.

Well, i have got my car back! nice engine sound n no more white smoke LOL smoother drive
Cost RM9,976, discounted RM26, hahahahaha!!!!

Apart from overhauling the engine, have also replaced most of the worn out parts around the engine area etc. Waiting for car dealer to inform me about how much are they going to reimburse me...

A bit of a 'painful' experience in the beginning, but rest assured, with the experience gained, and the engine running as good as new, bet it would be a better driving experience from now onwards......

No offense, but what did your mech do to charge you 1.3K for items 33 & 34 each?

Item 33 is the reengineering work for the engine block which they sent to another company while item 34 is the total labour cost for all the works. Is it too expensive?
I am not sure about the workmanship price for the total repair.

By looking at the work done and items changed, and most importantly issues solved, guess pretty much the bill was worth it. (have to keep reminding ur driving a BMW, not a kancil bro)

Yeah, i believe that i no longer need to change engine related parts in many years to come :p
About the workshop, have stated in earlier post, hahaha!
it's AutoRaco, a shop nearby Puspakom Desa Tun Razak, behind Giant Taman Connaught.
