I have to agree with Cobra Kai on his statement. Whoever forms the new committee, it is important that they must work hard to get more corporate and sponsorship tie ups in the likes of Shell, Petronas, Auto Bavaria, BMW Malaysia, Sapura Auto, Bavarian Auto, etc & etc, bringing the club to the right & positive direction.
Just imagine when you flash your membership card (BMW Club card) to these companies and straightaway it entitles you with some form of discount or special privileges, would this entice you to join the club officially without thinking twice.
Well.... this may takes time to achieve but I feel it is achievable especially with strong leadership and vision of course. With such things in place, it will definitely entice more forummers/people to join in officially. By then, membership fee will not be an issue at all.
My 2 cents.
David, presently our numbers are "relatively small" to command corporate company but the club is still trying and negoiating. We have worked with SA, BA, AB and BMW Malaysia in various "project". Though it is nothing much but it is a start. for eg, the visit to the BMW factory which recently have only managed to materialise after months of planning.
Other support no doubt small to some, we had the last AGM at SA. Similarly, our next AGM is going to be held at BA, Bukit Bintang. Our annual dinner was also sponsore by them and with the club name we have it at HRC.
FYI, the club is formed by a small group of "en-tooooo-is....ass" many years ago with money from their own pocket.. We are just following the tradition. TT and drives have always been the raw element to meet each other.
As of today, this bmw community have evolved and IMHO it is still in its infant stage. Many have come and many have stay but some have moved on. Do the club have to reinvent itself? Maybe yes, maybe no. but whatever it going to be, it would for the next committees to decide.
I once have a dinner with a council member from down under last month. I ask him the question on how their club managed to survive? He say most of the funds come from the members who dont mind "chip in" to make the club stay afloat. But one thing that come to my interest was that he mentioned that BMW actually gave them a small token in the sum of A$XX,XXX for the club event.. and that took about several years to "convience" BMW to sponsore.
Basically, I rather have 100 members who contribute to the club rather than 1,000 member who question what the club can do to benefit them.
This club is an non profit organisation. We are not here to make money. We are not a golf club nor a swimming club. We are the BMW owner club.
We are here to enhance the ownership of the UDM by sharing our knowledge and experience.
