Hi Everyone!

I'm new here, and I'm excited to be in the forum. I just bought a recond Japanese 2002 318i with a mileage of 21km.

I would like to consult the sifus here what sort of servicing the car should undergo at this point of time. According to the dealer shop, they will do a free routine service for me that can last 7km.

What should i look out for, or ask them to change? Btw, are they any reliable service centres in Cheras?

Tks guys. It feels good to be here.

Congrats on your ride dude....this is what I will do....firstly I will never give the dealer to do anything to the car with regards to servicing....never trust them as they are not specialists and you don't know where they will send the car for the oil change, etc....
If I were you I would neg a discount or some free goodies and say that you will do the servicing yrself....
Then take yr ride to a specialist and do a full check-up....change all the oils maybe except for the ATF oil as only 21K mileage....then again you wouldn't know if the mileage was actual and how the car was driven previously....for our standards mileage is very low for a yr 2002 but I hear for Jap cars it can be the case....
Check hoses, belts, brakes, suspension, etc....
Once you've done the full check-up and service, at least you can start keeping records and track what you've done to the car....good for resale and also preventive maintenance....
only my humble opinion....Good luck anyway dude....cheer

Hi All,

First time posting, nice to meet you all. Driving a 325i (2001). Did a few repair in USJ because car vibrates this morning. The mech change the bushe to the drive shaft I think. So as I took a glance on the lower body and realise a notice saying not to change gear oil as life time gear oil is fill in to the gearbox, if it happens to be changed, only to use specific type. So I guess, changing gear oil is not necessary.

Had my oil change today using Shell, the one with blue container.

Oil, oil filter and labor = RM 165

Hello Guys,

Drop here to share my experience and knowledge seems my close friend from high school now work as BMW Engineer in Penang Service Centre. He had been sent for a training in Germany recently for the software version update for 3 and 5 series.

As far as BMW owner knows ( If you service at BMW service centre ), the default service duration will be 25,000km per engine oil change. This cut off time will be reset at car CPU upon completed service. If we service at non-recognize BMW shop, they normally paste the small sticker to trigger when is the next service.

Eventhough the default setting set at 25kkm, my friend said that the best ideal time to send car for service is every 10kkm intervally. If we wait until the max of the oil lifetime, it will effect your gear box due to the oil change from liquid to jelly. This will block the 2nd layer of the engine and this is when your car not moving smooth and vibration occured.

Hello friend, welcome aboard to UDM experience. My advise to you is,do send your new car to nearby service centre. Your car at the critical life time already. Why I say so because Japan normally export their ride before the 1st major service which schedule at 25kkm. Please allocate about RM2k+ and it will last until 50kkm which equivalent to 1.8~2.0 years. Failure to do so shall lead to major problem which very costing in the future.

Thanks for the valuable advice guys. :)
I will definitely send in the car for a 1st major service.

The E46 is definitely worth the money!

Welcome to de club on E46! I have been owning E36 & E46 for de past 8 years and when come to services, places like Herritage (Old Klang Road), M-1 (Near D'sara) & Stuttgart(Taman Megah) are those with BMW expertise and great service at reasonable cost. That's from my experience......

The only bad encounter i ever had was sending my car to MB ONE AUTO TRADING (at ulu Klang) which was "slaughtered" experience and i was charged with unreasonable bills!

Speaking from experience, I believe some mechanics out there enjoy taking advantage of BMW users. To them, we are the easy prey whom they can manipulate and squeeze the shit out of your wallet!

Dear Bimmer's & Sifu's.
I'm new here and I'm using 318i e46 2.0 2002 bought second hand last year 06 Oct. Now I've noticed that my bearing give some music. My question is anybody have change the bearing before! and how much it's cost for front and rear bearing.

E46 owners,

From what I've read, you guys spend anywhere between RM400 - RM800 for service and maintenance. My questions, how often in a year do you normally do this? Or more accurately, at what intervals (every 20000kms, every 6 months, etc)?

I do my regular oil service every 8-10k. It cost me about RM280 for the lube, oil filter and workmanship. You can get it done cheaper at RM230 or less at come places.
