No idea but that's what BA quoted & sold to me. Box says "Made in China" as well.

From what I understand from a few BMW specialist workshops, 2 types or rather quality parts are being sold by Bavarian Auto i.e. the higher quality ones (more expensive) and the lower quality (cheaper) and the latter is obviously made in China. The workshops that I go to will always insist that BA supply them with the higher quality ones.

Yes, herbert. That is true about the spare parts cost. I purchase quite a lot of parts from BA for my own DIY. The saleman will usually show you 2/3 options (OEM, original and not so original). Depending on the usage, I usually go for the OEM or original. Though it maybe slight cost more but it last longer than the cheaper version.

Note: I seldom encounter spare parts that are Made in China before in BA shop but I once got a "not so original" "brembo" rear brake disc from BA.

That's true Jarance. However, the issue with BA is that they should at least pre-empt and inform client of the options available upfront. Like in my case, I assumed all Lemforder parts are made in German until I encounter this gearbox mounting, which I only found out when I got home.

Anyway, BA do allow the exchange of parts (in case you bought the wrong one) provided the part is unused.

wingzee,
it depend on your asking the saleman for altenative. I once wanted to buy a power steering pump for my E46. The saleman quote and show me the part that I have asked. I ask for alternative. he mentioned that the E39 pump can also be used but selling at a cheaper price. I compare both of them and found them to be the same. The only difference is the part number so I bought the cheaper part. Save a couple of hundred ringgit.

Yes, BA do allow you to change the part if they are not use but usually in exchange for other item.

Haha..i guess i just have to be a bit more careful when buying my parts in the future. I was assuming that these spare parts shops (reputable ones) are selling the same things, just slight difference in price. In the gearbox mounting case, RM27 vs RM65 is not 'slight', but again, could be of different manufacturers. (could be, even if it s the same, i wont be able to tell though :p)

Thanks all for sharing!

A new recond ZF (Germany-manufactured) rack is RM1.3k, with 6 months warranty. The above is only 1 month warranty and is locally-recond I was told.

Today's damage:

Labor for replacement of engine and gearbox mountings & brake fluid - RM130

Parts purchased myself at BA.

Master brake pump ATE RM650 from BA while workmanship at Ah Lai @ Kuchai Lama RM50 as friends price. Own BMW ori DOT4 brake fluid.

RM60 to fix windscreen bullseye crack (50 cent size) quite cheap

why do you need to do "on wheel" balancing for the rear wheels?
