Hi all, i'm from pasir gudang and got myself an e46 320i recently. I want to ask all the senior guys here.. what is the cost for full major service for my ride.

Hi guys ...

Fixed my heating prob yesterday and the following were replaced :

1. Radiator cap RM55.00
2. BMW Coolant RM38.00
3. Service radiator and replace top part RM295.00
4. Replace radiator spare tank mtg part RM255.00
5. Labour RM80.00

Total RM723.00 gone on the 3rd day of ownership.

Next up would be replacement of oil sump gasket as both my engine and gearbox are leaking slightly, replace ATF and engine oil change. Love how it drives though..

Hi Guys

I posted in my last service that my steering rack might be koyak. I also checked the earlier posting and some of you also mentioned the steering rack problem. Have any of you got yours replaced? How much is new, used? Heard that repair can be done? Reliable? How much?

I got a quote of RM1,300 to refurbish the steering rack with 3 mths warranty. Is that reasonable?

They refurbish your existing rack or change to reconditioned rack? Its quite steep as its not much cost for the steering rack repair kit. Better get 2nd opinion. This workshop trying to slaughter u

Another workshop quoted RM1100 to refurbish the rack, meaning will seal off any leaks and provide 1 year warranty. Any workshops that provide the repair kit?

Hi bro,

My steering rack was taken off from my car three weeks ago. It is a used steering rack that serves me well..I replaced it with another steering rack cause the mechanic (my first time visit) thought it was my steering rack that caused the bumpsteer in my car. After replacing it with another steering rack, it appears my steering rack was not the cause of it ..in fact my steering rack was still in a good condition.

Should you decide to buy from me, I am most willing to sell to you at RM700.00. If you do not like it for whatever reasons, you may return it to me within two weeks and I will refund you the RM700.00. Apa macam?

So what was actual problem? tie rod? link? arm?

Well until today no one can solve it. The mechanic used some kinda of rubber hose to tie the steering column and it reduces the feedback to the driver, hence not so apparent. He recommended me to change the lower arm claiming there was some free play although I just replaced it in march this year. I told him to go ahead although I don't think it is the culprit and true enough, it wasn't! lol. Usually it is due to tie rod, steering coupling or lower arm. I have changed everything! lol

Am a fussy driver...when I have the time, will send to albert of WP Auto. I consulted him before and he will need few days to dismantle every related parts to suspension and check one by one to identify the cause of it.

Bro, how much does the new steering rack cost you? Let me consider and i shall come back to you. Your old steering rack got warranty or not?

You can hardly get a new steering rack. The one purpotedly sold as new for RM3k plus is actually recond from overseas, supposedly better quality compared to the units recond locally which can u cant around RM1 k plus with three months warranty. Alternatively you can get fro chop shop around RM1k with one week warranty.

I cant give you a warranty but what I am offering is actually better than warranty albeit only for 2 weeks. If after you install the steering rack and discover that your problem is not due to your steering rack, you can return the rack to me and I will refund you, For warranty to work, you need to show it is leaking or that it is damaged within the warranty period. For my offer, if you are not happy for whatever reasons, I will just bagi balik ur money.

I got the used steering rack from the mechanic at RM1.1 k

Replaced these parts after the rear window gave way this morning:

1. Driver side window lifter - RM400 (preventive, as could hear some 'clicking' while winding up/down the window)
2. Rear right window lifter - RM300 (gave way)
3. Rear right window regulator/motor - RM350 (some small parts broke, effecting the lifter)

Total : RM1,050 (inclusive labor)

Bumpsteer? is it related to free play? have you looked at this thread? http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/foru...ring-free-play-when-cruising-at-highway/page4

Nop it is not free play..free play is quite easy to solve. Usually it is the steering rack. Bump steer is when you hit uneven road, the wheels take over the steering and it transmit to the steering wheel. very irritating. Some other related issues which a car may face is tramlining..

I have read that thread and changed everything mentioned there..lol

If all is okay then check the tyre. Too little or stiff sidewall will transmit more road to the rack then steering.

Check the absorber and rubber pad for the spring coil, the lower arm bush too. I changed them recently. No more bump steer and tramlining.

Thanks guys...I have changed tires from falken to nexen to michellin ps3 to good year assy 2. So it is not the tires.

I have changed to brand new original shocks, lower arm (twice due to wrong diagnostic), and rubber pad (the rear only), still the same. So now on bilstein b8 and eibach (loving it) but would prefer H & R.
