E46 325 SMG problem

Dear Sifus, would like to ask for any sifus out there who know on the smg problems? i'm newbie in BMW world. Test drive the car yesterday seems like gear shift 1-2-3 seems not that smooth. Downshifts also heard soft clunking sounds but its coming from the rear side. Ask the salesmen, he will give 6 months warranty for gearbox and engine. And guarantee the gearbox ok. Looking for advise.Thanks

Also bring the car to a bmw mechanic let the mechanic check the car thoroughly and get it in writing the 6 month warranty promised by the salesman.

the warranty usually cock. Ask the salesman if actuator pump leaking how? are they gonna replace a new one for you? if he say yes then make sure some have some prove he promised that, like B33mer said get it in writing. They said they will provide you 6 month warranty is because they want you to buy the car. SMG first time drive you wont really realise the problem, get someone else that own a smg to test drive with you.

I test drive again today. Here's some of the problems noticed:
1) Driver side window got scretching sounds when down/up. Salesmen kauntim can fix this.
2) When accelerate >120km/h steering feels minor vibration. ON WHEEL balancing problem lor.Mechanic advise to change for 17" rims for better handling.Also this can kautim to fix by the salesmen
3) Steering pedal shift not working when change gear. But changing gear using gear knob seems fine. Salesmen said this could be some sensor problem. He promised to fix it. Sweet talker guy haha
4) Test drive to check the gear problem by mechanic seems ok when use manual mode. C or comfort mode seems got clunking sounds but according to the mech this is normal for SMG especially if you do not familiar how to use this tranny.- I do surf other forum especially from US,they also mentioned the same.

However,engine seems smooth and quiet. Exterior and interior finishing satisfied. Body color still original in phoenix yellow.18" rims/absorber still in good condition;quite comfort even you drive thru bumpy road.

Other sifus who have currently own SMG or have experienced before using SMG,really appreciate your advise.

A common problem with E46 window regulator ... I'm on my 3rd window regulator

Check the front control arms bushings for wear in fact check all the bushing.
3) Steering pedal shift not working when change gear. But changing gear using gear knob seems fine. Salesmen said this could be some sensor problem. He promised to fix it. Sweet talker guy haha
The paddle shift will cost you RM800 new from BMW dealership ... Actually if you open the paddle shifter and spray contact cleaner on it should work again ... but don't tell the salesman :4:

Yes it's the nature of the beast. Do check for hydraulic leakage when hoisting the car up

I do hope you check out the smg thread i posted above. Not for the faint hearted ... Having said that it's an enormously fun car and i'm still smiling when driving everyday. The SMG however is really bad during traffic jams ... it's jerky and can be jumpy too.

For your point number 2,
This can be lower arm, tire, rim, shaft. Can cause you boom to fix it. I have this problem on my car. I change lower arm, then slightly better,then vibration still remain but is from rear, then change long shaft, vibrate still remain, then change rim and tyre. Finally all fix, now running smooth. So don't ever think of getting the car first and fix yourself. I learn my lesson, i dun hope you going through the same thing i been. Die die also test until 160-180kmh not vibrate all good only take the car, else ask him fixed it. lower arm a pair RM1450, long shaft RM3.3k order from germany by air freight need wait 3 weeks, new rim and tyre easily 3k +.

Bought a carton eneos. so my service damn cheap. within RM 200 + filter.
