haizz..... my old VR4 made in year 1988 also dont give me this problem. why are continentals so fragile.... lucky wasnt fetching chicks... if not ..... lak seh

did he look at your car before he suggest you need to change the gearbox ?
How long you at 6500rpm going up the hill ?
Was the engine overheated ?

you have a Galant VR4 ?

Turbology,

i have asked the mechanic and he told me that there is a slim chance and that i might not need to change the gearbox.

He advice me to take it all off apart, and change the clutch .... is there a clutch in the automatic transmission ?? maybe its the torque converter. and change all the bearings and those stuff... RM4k , this is the cheap option.
He told me this has no warranty and will effect my power as it is not as good as original and dont have the uummphhh... (i dont know what ummmph he is talking about, as my car is only 2.2L) already no umph.

expensive option is buy new gearbox cost RM8k included labour and warranty 6 months.

so guys, im still deciding.....what do you think.... either way im screwed... its either i get shot with a pistol or a machine gun.

Turbology,

i was into jap cars during my younger days.
i had a 4WD lancer gsr with vr4 engine (transplanted)
2WD mirage with VR4 engine (transplanted)
and a putra with evo 4g63 (transplanted)

haizzz.....

Turbology,

Was going uphill for about 2-3 minutes....then lost all grip with the box.... but still manages to move about 5kmh at 6000rpm.

hehehe....engine did die, but managed to start back. not too sure why it died...could be a safety precaution when the computer senses something wrong. but no, no overhead.

BTW, my reserve tank burst last month , got it changed for RM500. this car is heavy on maintenance !!!

i think that must be the turbology 's small and short shaft problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

check your drive shaft for proper spec/ upgrade it to be better!!!!!!!,
that effect the gear driving in the gearbox and cause it to worn faster!!! (clutch slippage)

probadly it was Coupe version... shorter shaft... Ha ha ha ha ha ha......

my powerful suggestion was change it to 6-speed manual gear or SMG or....
6-speed AT with higher torq version.... IMPORTANT!!!

I think that your torque converter is gone.
The seal that is preventing the oil seep is gone too.
That is why you have smoke all over.
You might need to change the torque converter only.

ONCE taken out can be seen clearly whether the portion have been (erroded) wear and tear

Continental was not fragile..

i suggest you to stop believe the nuclear SUN, they could be con man just like the past......
with old nuclear blasting attitude, they never changess....

eterna,
I owned a real VR4 back in US. I was fun to drive, especially in snow. haizz.. :D

About your car, you said 2-3minutes, then 6krpm going up hill at 5km/h, you could have toast your autobox. Too much heat.

Like Joegoi said, your torque conver is gone. I would do the 4k fix.
8k don't guarantee a problem-free future :)
How about a "experieced" (used) gearbox ?

p/s: I want your GSR

Hi eterna22,

I am sorry for your problem. I recently bought E46 320I japan spec. 2001 model. It has 49K on it and no major problem with the car except some a/c bearing noise which I yet to get it fixed.

If your mechanic says things are wrong and recommend you to change and you expended money and it didn't solve your problem - then i say to you - sue him! I won't say what I do for living. I am sure you can guess that very well.

I had a friend who had similar problem with his volvo 850 and spent rm5K with no fix. I told him to file a complaint at consumer tribunal at the Mall and get back his money. Which he did. I helped him to fill up the form and made clear cut case.

When the case was heard, the mechanic had no chance. But eventually my friend was very kind and settled for RM3,500 from the mechanic and dumped him.

So what are you waiting for?

Regards,
Velan

Hi there.......

Read about your problem....maybe my mechanic can help u .... he is good at bmw....and damn cheap too.... if u want to see .... let me know ... take care....

better check the brake light signal to the EGS.., i detect mine was not respond.., find-out it was missing link to EGS in the X69 socket., with-out brake signal... the EGS did not respond to what it should do, this cause the car still run with driving gear and poor stopping power!!!!, this was a con; and will cause the brake disc and PAD worn faster... surplus horrible nightmare will happen in the transmission BOX!!!
