E39 Soft at high speed

There is a shop in Jln Ipoh offering Sach at special price, Rm1600 back in Dec-2007, not sure still available. Some say Sach does not last.

To get Soft and Lowered is not easy I suppose as it limit the travel distance and likely to bump on the chasis when it is soft. I have B8, B8 is definitely for lowered but the ride is not comfortable as it is more to performance. I will imagine B6 is softer as it allow more travel distance compare to B8 (shorter and bigger stroke).

Someone recommned Koni, check out onthe Motor trader, Koni advertise for E39 also. Let us know your final decision and ride experince so we could learn together.

at this point in time, I am not ready to be a guinea pig as I have spent quite a bit on this car. I'd rather work with something that is already proven by senior E39 pilots.

I can live with the shoddy ICE at the moment but the platform has to ride well first.

Bailey, RM3+++ is for the absorber sets alone or including springs, mounting pads, absorber covers and bump stops? thanks in advance. would appreciate senior pilots to test my car too and then give feedback.

latuk affan,

contact mr wc9922 thru pm he knows better ok latuk cheers

Just in case anyone is looking for a set of Absorbers, I have a contact selling his used set but in very good condition: 2x Bilstein B8 (front) and 2x Sach (rear) all four come with performance Spring like NEW.

Selling cheap Rm1600 only for all four with spring. This is good buy for those looking to replace your old and leaked absober and to lower your car profile to sporty look. PM me if anyone need more.

I'm using Sachs Performance absorber + standard spring.
Can't say ride is soft or hard as I've never tried standard stock absorbers before.
Flying up to 200km/h is ok, but wobbly at 220km/h (single driver, no load). Running on 18".

By the way, I have Sachs Performance coils for sale if you want. Colour is black.

How much u obtained the Sachs Performance absorber?? Then how much u want to let go the Sachs Performance coils??

It came in a set, but couldn't stand the ride, as most of the time I'll be driving through our 'beautiful' KL roads.

Haven't figured out how much to let go the coils for. Will update you later.

As mentioned before, the shop in Jl Ipoh is offering RM1600/set (x4) for the Sach, but I am not sure exactly what kind of Sanch, you can check out the Inner Power or First Division in Jln Ipoh, the price should be around there. Good Luck.

Thanks Affan for the link: http://www.bmwdiy.info/suspension-survey/index.html

I just measured mine, it is 13", so compared to those on the survey, surprisingly mine is considered amongst the lowest, still personally I think I could get it down another 1" to 12" with shorter spring.

This is only possible with sport/shorty absorber with strong damping > hard ride for the bad road. After a while I am kind of get used to the ride, it is not bad at all.

Again beside the type absorber, type of spring, type of tire and tire pressure all contribute to the ride.

Keep us posted with your new hunting...

kema has no sachs abs.
Next week will try Munich and Bomin. Bav Auto confirm don't have.

Sorry lah, my mistake, the one that having the stock is Bomin Jl Ipoh, they have both Standard and Sport. Standard whole set is ~Rm1600. While Sport complete with Spring (for lower profile) is RM3800. wow... but even B8 without spring is ~RM2400. So, I suppose it is reasonable for complete with spring, though I am not sure what is the price for other brand. Bro Yazid might have better idea. Good Luck.

I think most replace the spring and absorber and if fail, replace bigger rim & wider tyres. Totally, neglecting the other suspension components that equally play an important role, such as arms (upper & lower) and rods (link & side). I just replaced them on a 5 yr old e39, the difference was so significant to just only replacing the absorbers done a month back. It yields similar result I have on my last e34 of worn suspension.

I doubt a brand new standard 5er suspension system will feel floaty or wobbly at speed with only standard 16"rim (heck my previous e34 on 15" rim also felt planted and reassuring). On top of that, the ride and handling was excellent. The steering in fact, feel firmer and reassuring. Trust me, check them out, it sure make heck a lot of difference.

The only downside, replacement of suspension wear & tear such as absorbers, arms & rods of e39 doesn't come cheap. But the sheer handling feel of an e39 with brand new suspension like the first day it roll out the production line, is PRICELESS. :top: It totally brings out the "Sheer Driving Pleasure" of the "Ultimate Driving Machine".

P.S. Be warn, what I did does not add to any visual improvement at all.

besides my absorbers and springs, all the other parts are NEW (bushing, rods, etc). Wallet feels extremely light. :)
