the frequency should be stated on the key unless it's already faded

No wonder no sound no picture lar.

313 MHz is for USA region..

433.92 MHz is for Malaysia and Europe region.

Pls refer to above pic - Crystal Oscillator frequency..

I saw the guy copy all the data of my old key to his pc then he write the data to the new set key. He did read the frequency of my old key too, so it was the same frequency btw old & new. That's why my car can start with the new key. But then on the remote control side, this guy do the same thing copy from my existing to a individual chip. It works if separately. But very unlucky when he put in the individual chip(remote control) tgether in the key. The remote not working. He told me that the elec circuit board can't read 2 frequency at the same board. I can't understand what is the actual cause. Anywhere he said he will come bck the solution with me, but then i was waiting 3 weeks already haven't receive his call yet.

Alex, I think you are gonna to wait for a long time.

If I am not mistaken, the E46 key have a continuous changing code for the remote operation. You cannot copy the code and transfer it to another key. It would not work because it keep on changing. It unlike your house autogate where the coding is FIXED. That is why sometime, your spare key does not work when you dont use it for some time.

The frequency of the key transmission is fixed. You can read it but you cannot change it. If your locksmith order the wrong key, it is not going to work.

The key can be used to start the car because the starting of the car is control by EWS with transponder embedded in the key.

The opening and closing of the door is coded by the another circuit in the key and is control by the GM5 module.

Both GM5 and EWS module are link and worked together via K & L-line communication.

btw, how much was he charging to duplicate the spare key?

He want to charge me 300 but i told him as agreed early i need a key for both function works then only i paid for RM600 which he requested. So finally he not dare to charge me any single cents.
He told me maybe his supplier supply the wrong type of key for this batch to him. Previous batch of key he got from the supplier was no such problem, even he him self was driving E46 325 and make the duplicate key for own use. So by the way i'm still waiting from him to come out a solution to solve my case.

BTW, alex, have you try to resyn your present key & follow immediately by the new spare key?

I'm not dare to do it coz afterward if i can't make it and my old key code get run liow then i will get more troublesome. Maybe if i'm with u then i'm dare to try it he..he..

where you located. I have try the resyn many many time. Have manage to resyn it without any problem.

From one key type to another. Old key on the left and new key (diamond) on the right.

NEW Key can start the car but remote operation cannot work. (Cannot open or close door)

TQVM for the on behalf post.

I check BMW WDS and it seem the key is before 1999. After 2000, the key are diamond shape.

But the instruction to resyn the is the same procedure. So Alex, you might still have a chance to get the new key to work.

Initialization Procedure.

1. Open central locking system using the car key.
2. Get into the car and close all doors. (Must ensure that all doors are close or it would not work)
3. Using the car key, switch the ignition lock briefly to position "1" and then switch off again. Remove the key from the Ignition. (Please do this switching within 5 seconds or otherwise the system is not ready for initialization.)
4. At the remote control key. Press the "OPEN" button (2) (->) and keep holding it.
5. When holding the "OPEN" (2) button, press the "LOCK" (1) button three time in sucession.

6. After pressing the "LOCK" (1) button 3 times, release the "OPEN" (2) button.

7. If the initialization process is successful, the door will lock and unlock immediately to confirm the process.

8. repeat Step 4 to Step 6 for second key within 5 seconds.

Thanks bro

Just a bit correction that my old key only got 2 button to press. OPEN/CLOSE

The GM5 module is equipped to register 10 keys. If your car is supplied with 4 key originally, that means you can register another 6 new keys. After 10 keys, it would not accept any new key.

BTW, the frequency never run out for the key. The frequency is fixed but the coding is roving. You can resyn your original key as many time as you want.

I have two new diamond keys which I ordered from bmw dealer here in UK. However I also have one very bad looking one, with missing centre button (BMW logo) so it doesnt work because of the missing button.

This is the style of the key (note different blade design than some others)

I bought a new blank key from ebay, and the plan is to cut the blade of the new key and swap the internals. Question is, where do I cut this key around KL area, and how much does it cost?

haywire, I got the key cut in Klang for about RM70. (Laser cut??).

I think most locksmith in KL/PJ can cut the keys..
