Hi bros,

One of my remote fobs stopped working a few days back. That was my spare fob and I guess I forgot to take it out to charge it after a while. It worked for one lock press (though i had to press it several times for the lock to effect) and then hasn't worked since. It can still unlock, lock and start the car manually though (i.e. using the key). I have driven it around a number of times to recharge it but still no luck until now.

So either the batteries have totally died or the fob needs resyncing. Whichever it is, hope some sifu can advise on:

1. If it's just the batteries, anywhere I can take it just to change batteries?
2. Resyncing process. Anyone done it before? I have tried the most common method mentioned on the web (i.e. put key in, turn to position 1, remove key within 5 secs, press and hold unlock then press lock 3 times within 30 secs), but doesn't seem to work. I tried that with my good working fob as well and no impact. So maybe I did it wrong or the procedure is not quite correct.

I guess if I get new batteries somehow I would still need the resyncing process right?

Anybody come across this problem before?

Thanks

I have not encountered this issue but I keep the battery recharged by swapping the keys every 6 mths.
If yours no more working,I would attempt key fob battery replacement per instruction from youtube...DIY as the key fob is not designed to have the batteries replaced.

diamond key type are chargerable battery. You have to cut open the key to replace the battery.

Any idea on how to resync the key just in case?

Just type in "resync bmw key" into Mr goggle and he will give you full details.

I did, if you see my original post. But it didn't work. That's why I'm asking if anyone has done it for real as maybe I left out something or process is slightly different for E60

Just noticed something weird... the fob can open the boot but cannot lock/unlock the doors. What does this indicate? Programming/resyncing need to be done? Or maybe battery is strong enough just to open boot only? Any idea?

If you can open boot, then your key fob is not the problem. it is already sync to your EWS and GM5 module.
There is no such thing as battery is just strong enough to open the boot and not the door. Either it can open or
not. No such thing as in between.

Your problem is either the GM5 module or the door locking solenoid.

To confirm it is the GM5 module, can you also open the petrol cover. If not, then confirm GM5 module.

You need to change one of the relays in the GM5 modules. BTW check the fuse as well. check out my thread on GM5 module.

Thanks bro. The saga continues... after opening the boot, i tried again to unlock the doors and lo and behold! I succeeded! And I could also lock it back. My joy was shortlioved however, the very next day it stopped working again and now even the boot cannot open.

I don't think it's any module or something to do with the car as the other keys works perfectly fine. Should be something to do with the key.

Am gonna try to change the battery just to see
