hello to all bros and sifu..have some questions here regarding e39 handling...im driving 1997 520 e39..still in stock condition...everything seems ok now except for the handling. the handling not very smooth as it supposed to be, there is no 'harmony' in handling the car..i want to improve its handling so that it feels like 'best sedan car in the world'..my ques are:a)what should be check to improve it?(steering rack, suspension etc)b)any additional things (sway bar or any) that can be put to make it better?what are they?c)how much will it cost to improve handling?hopefully all bros and sifus can help me with this:wink:

my ques are:
a)what should be check to improve it?(steering rack, suspension etc)
b)any additional things (sway bar or any) that can be put to make it better?what are they?
c)how much will it cost to improve handling?

hopefully all bros and sifus can help me with this:wink:

I am running a bilstein b8 + eibach prokit combo. Handling is great but expect a bumpy ride.
Running low profile rubber by increasing wheel size also helps.

a)what should be check to improve it?(steering rack, suspension etc)

First thing is the Suspension Bilstein B12 or MSport Package - Your handling will be awesome with the Bilstein You car will stick like Elephant glue taking corner at hight speed. Bilstein B12 is comfort and sports which comes with H&R Springs and B8 monotube shocks Cost around RM 4k in Malaysia in Singapore probably RM 3.4K. Make sure to get brand new absorber mountings.

b)any additional things (sway bar or any) that can be put to make it better?what are they?

H&R antiroll bar cost around RM2.5K with item A above it will be even better.

c)how much will it cost to improve handling?

RIMS and Tyres RM6k depending on the rims size and type - Maybe go for 17 inch if not 18inch german made not replicas hamman used will cost you RM3.5k - RM 4K used. Handling will superbly awesome with this 3 items.

Ride quality slighty bumpy on uneven road on the highway smooth....ride

means running on bigger rim + changing suspension setup is a must and add on antiroll would make it better...for rim, i would want to change it to 17 as for performance and comfort.

anyway, dont our ori suspension setup should be the best in comfort and performance?i thought myb coz it been while since i change it that is why now it loosen up...(newbie here, still lot to learn)

bump...further advices and experiences from bros n sifus needed.

Check your upper/lower arm and bushes too whether or not its time for replacement.

For a 520i, the optimum size is 17". Anything bigger will make the car feel like a sloth. Do pay close attention to the offset of the rim you chose. Must match original offset or else the suspension's geometry will be compromised.

Best set up. Go for Bilstein blacks with H n R springs with H n R antiroll bar. Car will outhandle most cars and put a smile on your face. Anything else is overkill and ride quality suffers too much.

My E39 520 wif 16" stock rim can go thru 70 deg bend smoothly around 70km. I am using Bilstein B6 & not lower somemore. My only problem is i need sports seat. On the other hand, if rim size bigger than 16", pay more attention to wear & tear of arm bush.

thx guys for explanation..now i can see clear view on what to do next..thx!
