People, I need a bit of help in terms of opinion and experience diagnosing fault in my Air Conditioning system. Basically, the problem is that everytime I switch on the AC I can hear this unpleasant grinding noise. I have replaced the compressor recently but that did not cure the problem and I have confirmed that it is not related to the Auxiliary Fan or belting. Anyone had experience with this type of problem before? What was the cause? Opinions and experience is appreciated. Thanks.

have you tried switch on only the blowers? maybe your cooling coil blower fan under dashboard touching your coil...kot? i believe that's the last experiment you could do

bro..why don't you take it to en experience mechanic to check ...if you would like to visit one...try the jalan gasing chap ..behind the Sheel station ... find for nathan

Thanks for the reply guys. The noise comes from the area in front of the engine so it can't be the blower fan. Yes when the problem first started I brought it to an 'experienced' mechanic. As a result spent lots of money getting new compressor but problem remained. Some idea on the possible causes would help to avoid unnecessary spending. Thanks.

why don't you try to spray some wd40 at some of the suspected area .. one target at a time ... that is how i do to catch some of the noise and narowdown the scope ....

yesssaaa....do agree, use the wd40, magic oil...heard some mat salleh did spray it on his knee and other joints and it works...no squeeking sound!

Don't use WD40 on your belts area. My suspect is your tensioner or belting problem.

Try to sprinkle some water on the belting area and see if the noise goes away. This test is to determine if your belting is giving you the problem. As for the tensioner, a reliable mechanic will be able to detect that easily. Hope that helps.

You also need to check the front electric pusher fan, the one located in front of the radiator (behind the bumper).

This comes on when the AC is turned on, and also under thermostat control when the engine is very hot.

It is common for the motor on this to wear/seize, causing grinding noise. If it isn't your compressor then this could be it.

Well I suspect that your compresser oil not enough or you didnt add good oil treatment to your compresser. I had the same problem too but after topping up oil to the compresser the sound has lessened.:)

If you had change your a/c compressor with a brand new one. Most likely the sound is from other part.
If it is a 2nd hand unit, then most probably the noise is from the compressor clutch . overtime the armature plate and rotor surface will be worned and has hardly enggange on the very first moment you On your a/c, this can be fixed if the worned areas are within limit, the air gap is 0.4mm to 0.6mm(varies depending on compressor model). If the gap is more the limit, you can fix this by replacing the shim (if your compressor use it) to the right thickness so that u get back the air gap.

Problem solved actually... It was the AC belting cracked. Changed that and sound dissappeared.

boss.. change belt and aircon tensioner. I think la.....

if ambitious go to Naidu and install his lifetime warrenty custom made spring aircon tensioner.

Wow we got the same problem

my mech ask me to change my compressor too, they quot me 1500+ for the new one....:bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

but my AC really damn cool, normal and its working fine, just the krocking sound from the compressor compartment, I think maybe the compressor magnetic clutch make this sound... will try WD-40 first... :smokin:

Zul, go for the belting first, its cheap to change. Even if it turns out not to be the problem at least you have a frest set of belt :)

wei.. dun try WD40.. screw up your belts.
try putting some water at the pulleys.. if no sound.. u tangkap the tikus already!

You have one more sound; your groaning and moaning from the unnecessary and expensive repairs which did not fix the problem.

Change your mechanic, and that sound will disappear too.

Noise from belt is easy to check and confirm. Simple things should be ruled out first before moving on to the more expensive items.

For problems like this, go to Naidu first.
