Not yet as now the mechanic tells me my alternator is the one that is making the noise, will ask him to service the alternator if possible.
My alternator is actually working fine as the voltage is stable at approx. 14V with/without AC / headlights / ICE being switched on.
The cover takes min 4 weeks for delivery. So I want to sort our the alterntor first then order the cover.

ohh... i heard about this cover as well.. cause while i was underneath my new ride E36... i saw kinda big huge room place in front of it.. i did ask a few person and they said can use the M3 E36 cover as it come as OEM... but you need to source around the halfcut shop...

anyway, can someone let me know where to get this piece cover? It will be great ..cause the way i see it if flood or going through some hard road with a lot of sands and stone... or even if you suddenly had a branch of tree pop up into underneath your car... it might cause problem.

I don't think you shd get approx 14V. You should get more then 14V. Used modic to comfirm ur number again.

The absent of the cover does shorthen the life of the belts due to the ingress of water together with fine sands from the road during rain.
The part can be obtain from earlier post by fellow viewfinder and LCP, I believe my mechanic in Penang gets his BMW parts from Bavarian Auto in KL. Maybe you could find out with them the cost. I was quoted RM410.00 without installation with 4 weeks delivery upon date of confirmation.
I have not order the cover yet as I wish to service the alternator first before adding the cover.
Do update any new info. Cheers.

Ok, I will be going to Chu Seng to check it out. the reading i got was from my multi-meter but it's more than 14V but below 15V.

BTW, how's the flu on your car? feeling better now?

Not flu lah, it is a cough....;) ;) ;)

After see specialist in KL, now back to normal. kekeke.....

If you adding this cover , would it be restricted some air flow thru your engine bay ? Imagine during traffic jam......!!!!

I see many e46 come with the cover, most of them removed it after found out have more disadvantages then advantages.

Pls correct me if i am wrong.

Just serviced my alternator , changed a bearing/belt pulley on the alternator and the belt tensioner on the alternator belt. There's actually another belt tensioner besides the one for the AC belt.
No more irritating noise anymore, but I'll have to wait until I start the car tomorrow morning to know if the problem is really fixed.
The bearing/belt pulley was damaged due to the missing cover on it. fine sand could have managed to find their way inside the ball bearing and f@#ked it up.
Once I am sure I have fixed the noise problem, I'll order the underside cover.
I think this cover should have been included to all BMW meant for our market. It will definately prevent the ingress of water and fine sand, especially during raining days. Splash of water from pot hole / rain water on the road will come together with dirt and fine sand. The cover should tremendously reduce this risk.
I think the air intake shouldn't suffer as the intake of the standard air filter box in in behind the left head lights and the air duct that cools the alternator take it's air from the plastic housing above the grill.
RM410.00 is the price of the cover. Maybe I can try to get some discount if there's anyone else wants to install it too. To change a AC belt for me is RM63.00( RM48 for the belt + RM15 labour ) but to not have suffer from those irritating noise in the morning when going to work is priceless.
Cheers.

Started the car this morning and the irritating noise is no more.:D
The car has never sound this good for a long time. I am very happy.

On the under protective cover, anyone wants to get it also in Penang? I can try to get Chu Seng to lower the price if there's more people going for it together.

Let me know.

Hi guys, I am facing the same problem on my E36 318i. Just changed my belts not too long ago and it was so quiet then, but till now...more or less 2 months, the belt noise is back....very irritating. I thought it was the belt tensioner sound so I brought it to my mechanic to check. What he did was pour a lil bit of water on the belt while it was running and immediately u can hear the sound disappeared. Then confirm it was the belt...he was also suggesting the installation of the plastic cover.

So anyone has it in their ride? where to get it? share share info pls :) thanks

In regards to the Bottom Cover, did any of you guys get a really cheap one? Went to do my service and found that my cover was missing. It was screwed out not ripped off. Probably the last mech at Gombak did this. Anyway it is standard in E36M3 cost bout 410. Damm now i need to get a new one.

Guys,

I need to get this "Front Aggregate Protective Plate" for my E36 318i, by hook or by crook "refer to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CB32&mospid=47444&btnr=51_2218&hg=51&fg=75".

The car came standard without the protective plate. I was told only 325i and 328i have this plate as standard. Recently, my beltings are making noises again, especially in the morning. Sometimes I need to travel to places where the roads are untarred. The sands and mud are getting into my beltings and pulley, making the lifespan shorter.

1st option is to get from a chop shop, which I know it is hard to come by. But anyone here bought this thing from any chop shop before? What's the price?

2nd option, if 1st option is not available, is to get a new unit from either First Division or Bavarian Auto. Perhaps if we could organise a group purchase, it could be cheaper?

Or alternatively, anyone here custom make this plate? Maybe using carbon fibre or something. Need some input and discussion on this thread again.

I am sure many of us here are facing this problem. Don't wanna waste money changing belts every now and then.

Let's start a list of interested buyers. Maybe we can negotiate for cheaper price if there's a big volume (we are talking about brand new items here, those who know where to source for a used unit, better still).

Interested buyers:-
1) Russie (E36 318i - M43)

i've have fitted the front aggregate protective cover in my e36 328 for quite some months now & it have solve the noise problem from the belts, tensioners, etc. cost rm 410.00. maybe the cover did serve some purpose afterall. before the cover, have 2 frequently change belts, tensioners, bearings, etc, just so that the car can be less noisy. AND IT DOSEN'T come standard in a 325 or 328

Bro udm6868, where did you buy that front aggregate protective cover? Can let us know the place? We would definitely organise a group purchase. Well, I thought this cover came standard in 328i?

Thanks
