i donno what happen, but my e36 318i have a very very high maintenance fees.. i just brought it 4 months ago n every month, i'm paying 500 bucks for that.. just too many problems.. n now, some weird noise come from, donno which part of my car, i really wonder what's that noise n, how u guys maintain ur car.. does anyone of u face the same problem as me?? :(

ermm u do know e36 is the least reliable model bmw ever made? this is the first model they switch to full CAD design... :D
if i m not mistaken la..

i own an e36 oso le.. haha

On the contrary, I have had my E36 318i for more than 5 years now. Never had to spend RM500 every month. Did you take your car for a full check up before you made the purchase? It's strange because maintaining a 4pot is pretty easy. Very cost economical. Must be an isolated case.

HEHEHE kene potong kepala ke. Maybe it happens that your car parts started to worn out. Bear with it my frend, after you have done all the necessary changes you will have more peace of mind and from then keep on constant monitoring on your car. I have driven E36 318i (M40) few years back and had spent more then SGD$6000 for worn out suspensions which i changed to KONI sports, failed water pump and forced my mechanics to do top overhaul and change the camshafts as well, failed fuel pump and dump my dented 17" TSW IMOLA rims for a 17" BBS RK. After that no problems came out. Bear in mind i drove hard on that car before and after it breaks down, always revving to redline. The only regrets was that the car was sold after 1-1/2 yrs owning it and upgraded to E39 520i. HEHEHHEHE now me driving E30 316i M40. The bottom line is 4 potters are the cheapest to maintain, economical (averaging 10l/100km) for my 15yr old car. Normal servicing for my E30 M40 engine
4lit engine oil(BMW HIGH POWER MOTOR OIL 15W-40)=SGD$30~RM69
Originial oil filter= SGD$8~RM18.40
4 spark plugs = SGD$2.50x4=SGD$10~RM23
Airfilter =SGD$18~RM41.40
labour=$30~RM69
Total = RM220.8
For E36 318i M40, engine oil would be around 4.5 litr :)

yeah... as mentioned above, most probably the parts are worn and due for change, and mind you, BMW parts are not cheap (relatively speaking compared with other local and japanese makes).... that why it is also called "Banyak Makan Wang". However, once the necessary parts have been changed, you'll enjoy sheer driving pleasure for a long time.

Thoughout my almost 3 years of ownership I have spend about RM6000 on parts replacement and overhaul.

Hai geng? I'm owner E36 318 M43.My car is problem high speed driving time on the road and i brake steering very vibration.I also change both side front brake disc rotor.After 2month same problem come back. List part i change last 2month>4pcs new eibach spring >4pcs new bilstein shock sport > New both side ball joint n control arm bush[heave duty] > 17"inch AC rim n tyre check mechanic tyre shop.Brake disc pad n caliper ok. :(

I would've suspect the rotors or the arm bushings. But since you only recently changed them, the next logical culprit might be your rims. Go to the rims specialist to see whether your rims are "bengkok" or not.

He he BroLee..rindu nak masuk w/shop ya. My car just masuk w/shop Radiator cooling fan koyak, water pump pun koyak, pulley koyak and belting pun koyak. lastly my pocket koyak. :D

Bro Gent Punk...as what others said 318i is cheaper to maintaince compared to 325i or 328i. my self experienced with 318i M43 for 3 years before...the only things gave me problem withing 3 years was AFM (replaced 2nd hand unit@RM300),suspension leaking (Replaced by Bilstein Black) and rear wheel bearing (both side replaced)...the rest only doing normal oil service.

Cheers
