lets see if i can answer this.....
well lets just say it this way,we all knw tht the malaysian water isnt exactly 'clean' frm chemicals, chlorine etc and if we use tht dont u think tht our radiator will eventually boil dry with all the harmfull sediments?

the most valid answer would be tht using radiator coolant is better coz it has been specifically made to withstand extreme boiling points and thus wont evaporate as fast as using just water.

just my understanding.
correct me if i am wrong sifu's! ;)

hope i answered u dude! :D

come for tt lah maroon3 and r424!
thn u get to meet all the sifu's and ask thm for advice etc....

And still on the topic of radiator, can i 'tumpang' ask Crymson a Q.
Why u stressed never2 just use water only?
My mech said just use plain water only either the mineral/filtered ones
without any coolant or the sort..... :dunno:
Care to elaborate on this pls?
I'm still learning....hope udm(u don mind?)
Thanks in advance.
r424, bcoz when i changed my radiator the first time i only used water. my mech also said use water is enough. but 1 1/2 years later, my car starts overheating, almost every 2 days my water radiator level need a top-up and i can see water dropping underneath my car, didn't know where it came from. my mech recheck and took out the radiator, you can see 3 small leaks at the bottom of radiator and some signs of rust (not very visible) in that area. Then had to change to another new radiator. Thats already paying twice ... almost RM1200

Hi Crymson!

Thanks for the above clarification.

Looks like the longlasting prefilled coolant as mentioned
by my mech doesn't hold true after certain period, right?
In fact i bought one bottle of the coolant(not so expensive brand le)
but stopped short of pouring into the radiator after being told by the mech.

Btw, this radiator has been the original with car since the previous owner
purchased it in 2001.My mileage now is abt 30K.Hope the radiator'll take on more with my daily ride of the car.

Did tou top up with any particular recommended coolant by the way?

Thanks again.

p/s sorry Maroon3 for digressing......

r424

no particular brand, just whatever coolant the mech had .. i think it was wurth. maybe some of the forummers here can highlight recommended coolant

stick to bmw coolant..the're cheap and works well with aluminium radiator...

Infact the recommended mixage for your radiator wud be of demineralized water and coolant. Infact coolant do play a part in your quote. Why demin water.....they tends to have the lowest conductivity...meaning lowest TDS...total dissolved solids and minerals.....ya and they prevent scaling and corrosion not only inside your radiator but in your engine as well.......wise recommendation for new cars...start anew....grow old anew....
