For those who interested to find an accurate way for checking fuel consumption here is what you have to do:-

1. fill the tank to the full.
2. reset the odometer (or trip meter) to zero.
3. Drive around until your tank is almost empty.
4. When your tank is empty, fill your tank to full again.
5. Check the amount of petrol in litres that is required to fill to full tank again.
6. Check the mileage (km) that you have travel on your trip meter.
7. Divide the km with litre will give you your fuel consumption.

for those whose trip meter is in miles, just multiply by 1.6 to convert to km.

Thank You Jarance.....

Thats the most useful advice so far..... Guru's here, need your advice... Does exhaust setups effect fuel consumption? Let say using bullet instead of the traditional center box or catalytic converter? What do you guys think....?

Uncle Jarance..... Thanks for the tip.... I was trying to work it out but cannot visualize it the way you put it... Very good indeed...

You deserve a roundel award.....

My 318i (E36) is about 8 years old. With a full tank I can reached about 520km mix town and highway. I even reached 600 km from KL to Penang!!!

Try send your car for fuel injector cleansing , ultrasonic! I sent mine and it is indeed very much smoother, more consistant and lower fuel consumption up to 560km.

Check out this website www.autochild.com! No point changing this and that without knowing how to maintain your car in depth!

Good luck!

i refuled to the very top in kulai before i hit the road, using petronas97.
i drove my car to sepang too. i clocked 551km on 50.5 liters (accurate measurement). when i hit 513 km, the orange warning light came on. on this trip, i occasionally blasted my car to 190 on 4th. the the actual consumption is roughly 10.91km/l. is it considered good?

i believe it is possible to hit 600. the fuel tank size i checked last night is 55 liters.

bro, can i do the fuel injector cleaning for E46 318i? how much does it cost and where did u do it & how long does it take? thanks

I get around 500-550km on a full tank for city driving and 700-750km for highway. Just came back from my trip to Hadyai and on both trips (to and fro) I still have around 1/3 of tank left after 500km of travel. Travelling speed on average about 120kmh and occassionally up to 150kmh during straights and some unfamiliar terrain down to 80kmh.

I tried using a fuel booster and after about 1 month there was a slight improvement on consumption (average I get about 50kmh more on a full tank).

Hi!

My 318i (E36) can hit around 520-540km within city and highway. If it is City only is around 490-500km. Am using Mobil/Esso, but did some engine flushing and fuel injector cleansing to maximize the effeciency.

I use almost the same method as Jarance, except for number 3.

3. Drive around until your orange light fuel indicator comes on.
(that way you dont really risk running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere) ;)

The rest is the same. The theory behind this is
a. your odometer clocks how many kms you've run until the fuel warning light comes on.
b. the amount of fuel you top up is how much fuel you spent to get (a).

divide b with a gets you how many liters(or RM) you spend per km
divide a with b gets you how many kms you get per liter(or RM)

E30 should be 55 litres. Never tried Projet 92 before. Tried Projet 97 and it really sucks for my UDM. Better stick to V Power.

P.S. Another 20 sen increase will definitely make me switch to cheaper alternatives like Shell 97 or Petronas 97.

E36, 318i, 96

Full tank RM97 (59liters)
H/way driving : 570km
Should be around there lar for highway driving. JB to Melaka(204km) consumes about a quarter(16 litres) of my fuel.

Send your car to Auto Bavaria instead of sending to local /ordinary workshops that will cost you more. You thought of saving some cash by not sending to Auto Bavaria but believe me, AB is a specialist for BMW, approved worldwide, no worries wether they can repair your car or not. They never try an error on your car like ordinary workshops do.....and the worst part, you got to pay for their errors done on your car. BMW parts are not cheap, unless you have some extra cash to to give away...

Just couldn't resist a response, even tho this thread is going out of topic.

Err... how long have you been owning a beemer?

And is it the 328, converted from 318 that u r talking abt? Which year is that?

There is another thread on which workshop to go to. Post your comments there.
