pipings are everywhere but mufflers....unless u want those....n1 type otherwise it would be close to impossible to find a 4" unless custom made.....mufflers.....or your could opt for twin 2"s hahah

dom:u know what i mean hahah it will make u go nuts.....everytime u ignite it.....u will promise urself not to do anything dangerous, stupid or dangerous but in the end of the journey somehow good things sure turn up puttin ur right foot through your firewall hahahha......

Good Day all!

I have joined the 1jz (vvti) e34 ranks for almost a week now, and its been putting a smile on my face everytime I go out. I hope this thread is not dying out as I would like the help of some sifus regarding a few (or any) of these questions:

1. So far I have been using ron97 exclusively as recomended by the seller of the car, but would like to know if using ron95 would be bad for the engine.
2. How difficult or expensive would it be to make the gears longer? Is there a 6 speed available to mate with the engine?
3. Car is running well, but around 80-90 kmh there is sometimes a vibration. Is this an alignment/tire issue or something else?

Thanks and regards!

Welcome to the darkside, we have cookie! =)

1. I use shell 95 one ever since, sometime 97 and v-racing.
2. (I no nothing)
3. Welcome to geng ketaq 80, hehehe. Some say that vibration is due to longshaft.

E34 has tendancy to vibrate when front thrust arms are out. Also when steering box/linkages is going out, I have had this happen on laguna seca, very irritating to chase down. Best idea find a very experienced BMW sifu who wont pillage your bank account. Thurst arm bushing is famous for vibrate like crazy at 100kmph or so, when accel and braking it feels like your tyres will fall off!

I have ran 2jz-gte with US twins and 3" downpipe BPU modified with 91 octane poop gas, it is ok actually -the knock sensors drop ignition timing, life goes on. Obviously if you run a 110 octane racing it will be different, the If going to boost up the original 1J injectors will be on the small side; the 2jz has 440cc and 550cc in USA format. Tuning is also the most important - the 2jzgte is smart enough to map ignition according to fuel.

6 speed gearbox is avail from MK4 supra (v160 or v161)... the late model JDM spec Non turbo JZA80 had a 6 speed V161 getrag also.

the 1j will directly bolt up a 6 speed getrag; propshaft will need to be shortened as the Getrag-6 is longer, 1JZGTE r154 native pull clutch should be able to be retained.

lol...why stick with 3" when you can get 3.5" or 4"!!!

6 speed is over rated, 5 spd is enuf. unless u're heading to texas mile showdown with smokey!!! hahaha :p

why go 1j when u can turbocharge the bmw engine. no wiring headaches, no worries on JPJ. runs on stock ecu.

Why bother when the original BMW engine is better than the 1j/2j for boosting? My friend here is 1,000hp on the BMW engine, nicer power band than 1,000hp supra's have.

1j/2j has a garbage transmission avail compared to any BMW M50/M54/M20. the 6 speed In my e30 cost me less installed in my e30 than the Getrag 6 speed for a supra lol. This is with full custom mounting/shifting kit to fit the e30 body with 0 cutting and a 6 speed from 2005. The newest MK4 supra V161 transmission is going to be from 1998, quite a bit older parts and technology - also cost is very high.

for the price spent on a garbage 15 year old R154 you could have a Modern ZF 5 speed easily, the 6 speed cost of MK4 supra would allow you to install a 6 box on your BMW and pay for part of the turbo parts.

the BMW engine casting is more advanced than the toyota stuff, the toyota 1j/2j is famous for walking the thrust bearing on the crank.
also famous for oil seal leaks, my fully built from naked block 2jzgte still shot out its cam shaft seals and front main seal. And they were all genuine toyota...

BMW engine has incredible oil seals. Perhaps I am just being ridiculous but too many leaky dirty 1j/2j engines with crap seals, also my own bad experience of shooting out cam shaft seals on my fresh rebuilt 2jz-gte. (genuine toyota).

more economical and (better for owner value) and higher performance with the BMW engine + turbo.

I had a complete 2jzgte with 0 miles I had built sitting and refused to swap it into my BMW. it was just not advanced enough for the body, would have rather swapped in a chevy 350 to have 5.7Liters of torque than the 2jz.

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone, did not check back here for a while..thought the thread was dying out, but Im glad to see more posts in this section!

@rizal_e34: The 5-speed is great, its only during highway/long-distance driving I wish there was a 6th gear to bring down the revs when cruising. (If I remember correctly, when I am at 120 km/h I will be around 3k rpm). I have not even gone close to 240 km/h! Still trying to learn slowly, have not pushed any boundaries or limits (...yet).

@jo-e34: I have to admit I have not owned a bmw engine, I bought the car with the swap done already so I cant really compare. In fact, this 1jz car is easily twice the car than what I had owned before and then some! Driving is actually a pleasure now, rather than a mode of transportation..except maybe in a jam (heavy clutch + heavy traffic). I also did a rough test for fuel consumption with a mix of highway/traffic driving and got back 400km+ for rm100 of ron95, while not trying to be economical.

@wanganstyle: Thanks so much for the info on the front thrust arms! I did a bit of research and the symptoms seem to match:
- The 50-60 Mph shimmy.
- Severely enhanced brake shimmy.
- Clunk noise (cause by defective ball joint).
- Bushings torn or with small cracks.

And I have more questions if anyone could be so kind to further help a noob:
1. How do you adjust the final drive ratio? Would I have to buy a new differential or can I adjust the current 5-speed?
2. How much boost/bar is recomended for the 1jz vvti? My boost controller needs to be tuned/reset, but when it is off it runs at 0.7, and when I turn it on it reaches 1.0 bar. What do you guys use?
3. Has anyone dyno-ed their car? Would love to see some results. Btw, if I wanted to dyno my car for both 0.7 and 1.0 bar, does it mean I have to do 2 seperate groups of 3 runs?
4. My accel pedal seems far back compared to my brake and clutch. I have been looking at pedal extensions but have not found any cheap alternatives for raising the height. There are these nice Rennline pedals, but they cost 90usd and additional 45usd just for the lifter plates (plus another 45usd for heel/toe extensions)!
http://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Adjustable-Lifter-Plate/productinfo/PA71/
Can i buy just the pedal plate and make my own extensions?

Thanks again, and any help much appreciated!
