Does the 540i (M) have nikasil problem like the 7s?

Hi all, Had been reading in the e38 forum about their nikasil problem (which i've yet to fully understand what it is) and hit my mind whether the 540i have the same problem. Thanks and cheers... Regards

read up wikipedia on the M60 paragraph in their E34 page. nikasil lined engines were eventually discontinued; read to see which one is yours.

Hi Mizhan, thanks for the tip. I dont own that 540i yet, doing a lot of read up and consideration. Love it no doubt but there are some scary killer reasons that i may not be up to it. The car is a 97 car. Not sure which engine it is but its a 4.4 litre. So its M60...ok i'll look it up in wiki.

4.4 V8's are no longer nikasil ligned i believe.. but please do your homework nonetheless.

Hi mizhan, you are right i suppose. The 4.4 version is different from that of the 7's that have nikasil problem. However, still need more reading. Thanks again.

since it's the E39, the car shudn't have nikasil problem...the non-vanos M62B44 engine was coated with alusil instead, which eliminate the corrosion problem.....so they say la!!:top:
