I've recently posted my friend's car for sale since he is going to be posted overseas and has asked me to help sell his car. How is this being classified as commercial posting by Betty Boop? It is only commercial if I am doing this as a business and earning from it. Please get your facts right before doing things like this, I feel that it is very rude to close threads with the wrong reasons.

i feel you buddy!! last time i complain about president also kena deleted

what happened to zamtresco's reply to this post before yours? I hope that this forum haven't become a dictatorship. The BMW club and forum is made to benefit its members, and it is the members that we should look out for.

Have you guys gone wonky ? Is your PM functions not working ?

Dan with due respect, yes your complaints are valid and you will receive a PM from the necessary people soon. The reason for Zam's deletion is because it may cause much unrest again. Dont make it seem that the committee is power crazy, if we really are like that then we will be deleting so many things here online. PM me if you have any problems bro..

Guru,

I hope you understand that we have to delete some posts that may cause unrest here. PM me or any of the committee members if you have any other questions, we will be glad to help you out.

Flash

The reason your postings were deleted in the past was because you had so many one word postings that actually wasted bandwidth. take it wasy lah bro...

I hope you guys understand

Guru & Flash, please do not post anything if your intention is to ruffle the situation. You can pm me if you feel that you've been unfairly treated. Please do not lead the topic astray. Thank you.

Danpromote,
Please do not get the moderators wrong. They are just doing their job. The reason why we are not encouraging forumers to sell big items e.g. a car, on their friend's behalf is to avoid unnecessary confrontation should a deal turns sour. There has been cases initiated in the classified section in our forum (R Vs B Case) whereby the commercial transaction of a simple set of wheels went sour because of some disagreement and as a result, this forum was used to voice their grieviances against one another resulting in name-callings, etc. Not a pretty sight for passerbys. We do not want the public to get involved in private transactions. Fingers were also pointed at the committee for not mediating the situation. That explains why we have been a little stern in the classified section of late.

However, due to increasing enquiries on the governance of the classified section, the adminstration team and committee will be re-evaluating the rules & regulations shortly. As a matter of fact, I suggest having a poll if we should relax the rules a little so that it's free for all e.g. allowing car salesman to conduct their business, allowing forumers to sell their aunty's private vase collection, etc. But whatever it is, we will only condone transactions of car (BMW if possible) related products. This is a bmw club forum. At the end of the day, we shall go with the flow.

Perhaps it would be a better idea to get your friend to register him/herself in this forum so that can make use of the facilities here. That should eliminate any queries of commercialism and in turn, this forum gains a newbie. A win-win situation. Thanks for your understanding.

Actually there is nothing wrong with helping out a friend who's posted overseas, if a deal turns sour, so be it, we are all adults that can handle the situation, but to lock it as a 'commercial thread' is way out of line. If there is a rule that you can't help to sell friend's items, then I will gladly accept it, but by locking it as a 'commercial thread' it gives people the wrong impression that I am a 2nd hand car salesman. No offence to 2nd hand car salesmen, but I do not really want to be associated with the line of work which I'm not in.

I agree to your suggestion that the rules should be relaxed as long as it benefit its members in the end . Since this is a non-commercial club/organisation, as long as the club does not benefit commercially from the transaction, then no law has been broken. Members and the club are a seperate identity and their actions are not the club's actions.

I would gladly ask my friend to sell his car if he is in Malaysia, but he will be posted to Qatar so I've just done him a favour by letting him put his car in my house and help him sell if there is anyone interested. I've got no intention to benefit from the sale as all proceeds will go to him.

There have been cases postings were done by forummers as pretext that they are selling their fren's car, uncle's car, grandfather's cars but turned out that they are either full time used car dealers or part-time used car dealers. They are using the forum to their advantage (free advertising).

To the moderators, they just apply the rules across the board without preferential treatment. Other threads were closed too but reopened after the seller/poster clarified the situation with the moderator.

It's a deterrent to prevent the forum from being swamped with outsiders using the loopholes to reach out to the captive audience here. Whether it's for commercial purpose or conmen trying to pull a fast one. Without some form of regulations, we would run risk of turn the forum into a lelong.com. which would in turn dilute what we want the forum to be in the first place.

I think it is commendable to want to protect members from possible conmen but other than that, everyone is using the forum to their advantage, after all, it is meant for the members to benefit the members, nothing more, nothing less. That is the crux of all car clubs, a place where we can all share our interests, experience, get to know one another and if there are other benefits, even better.

In terms of the problem with commercial posts (why is it a problem in the first place?), perhaps it is advisable to charge a certain fee for other companies who wish to advertise, but use that fee to benefit the members as a whole eg. sponsor some road trips, subsidised club merchandise etc etc. I'm sure the club legal advisor can find out how to go round this. If a church can collect donations, I'm sure a club can also collect some fee to benefit the members. We just have make sure that it does not violate any regulations. Anyway, just my 2 cents opinion.

yupp agreed too many dicktactors here...better stay away from here..or if u want safe just talking cock sing song only le....

but anyway same as my comments before.. this is public forum so it have to act for public use it..if not u have to collect fees from member who want register or posting here...then i think it easy to control..if not u make our life difficult.

dan, best idea to generate fund which in turn benefit the member indirectly
via subsidy etc.. etc..

It pays to advertise...

Dan has clarified the matter with the President and requested for the thread to be closed...

Thanks.
