clutch bearing for E30

hahaha.. chris.. it's very common in the e30, especially in a 325, cos of the single mass flywheel with the sachs clutch kit.. can't do much about it..

so just live with it..

Just thought I'd revive this thread as I just started noticing this sound on my 318i M40 too. I recently had a auto -> manual conversion performed, so clutch plate set (3 pieces) is all new.

Now I noticed the same problem, a whirring noise when im in idle with clutch released. Noise goes away when clutch pressed back in. Not sure if it's new or it's always been there and I just didn't notice. Anyway, it's bugging me now. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks for reviving, cn tumpang ask also. Looking at previous thread , even after changing full clutch set , the problem will arise- dont BM would have designed that way, could the longshaft contribute..heard of ppl balancing theirs, does this work ? where can this balancing be done? how much cost?

The m20's famous for it.. just live with it, can't ? buy another BMW..

Those of you suffering from this may find these articles interesting reading, it's written for those switching to lightweight flywheel but also applies here:

Not sure if you guys are using stock flywheel or machined/lightened ones but the M20 single-mass is relatively light to begin with, making it prone to this.

Another fix may be to source an M20 flywheel from the 5 series, which is a bit heaver (8.6kg vs e30's 7.2kg) I had one of those on my ride and never had any klak klak. Basically the extra mass will damp the rattle but the engine will rev up a tad slower, though it will be smoother overall.

I've since switched to a aluminum flywheel which lets me rev like a Honda but at the expense of some clacking at stoplights. I'm planning to try out the UUC recipe to see if it helps, but have not found any place locally that sells Redline NS version.

am using the flywheel from e34...still got klakklak, do share results when you tried the uuc solution ( they appear quite confident can solve the prblem) also where/ if you manage to find the Redline NS trans fluid.

Well this is what i would suggest:
1. Check your synchronizer ring
2. Clutch Hub & Key
3. Clutch Slip Hub

If that does not work...
Try checking your transmission Lubrication...

I think that should help...
