Hi guys,Few weeks back, I've changed both of my rear wheel bearing due humming noise coming from the rear wheel. Therefore, I've asked my mechanic to have a look at grinding sound coming from the rear as well. The sound is usually noticeable when cruising around 70-80 km/h. My mechanic told me it's the rear differential bearing went kaput, and he advised to source for the whole rear differential. Other parts are verified okay e.g. long shaft, rear drive shaft, center support bearing, guibo. Can I just change the bearing, or I have to change the whole unit? If I were to replace the whole unit, where can I source for it? Can I just have it rebuild?Car is an E30 M40 manual.Thanks.

In mudah.my look for Autobahn Autohaus. I believe they have a few diffs.

you better change the diff quickly, it might jam the back and things can get nasty...

+1 to what pussy said.

If you want, you could also try sourcing for a LSD diff and feel a new world open up with the E30... :19: :burnout:

Thanks for the advise. So the bearing is not replaceable? Where can I find a good unit? chop shop is an option but I'm worried about the condition. I'm looking for final drive ratio within 3.9 to 4.3 if I were to source for one.

better change the bearings and change the shim also... it's cost about 680.00 in parts and 60 for a new oil with 250 - 300 for labor...it's on a high side, but sure a new feeling for the next 5 years.

Hi pussy,

I think I have the same problem with my rear diff needing to change bearings. Do you have a contact for a mechanic who can to such a job? I am in KL area too.

Thanks for that! Just to check as i checked on google maps, the shop is in Desa Tun Razak? Is that correct?
