cheras=jln tenteram area.....

If u familiar with da place u will will know that there are only a couple of schools there which have dorms.....mine is a name brand, not geenric  ......kctam from there too....

Dunno if anyone else lurking here ......basically there were 2 camps then - in the red corner Duran2, aha, nick kershaw etc. and in the blue corner Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Dio (Ronnie James), Scorpions (omigawd) and all forms of mullet haired species.....of course theres evrything in between as well ekekekekekekek
i only know taman shamelin perkasa (maktab sains mara... hehe) and jaya jusco tmn maluri...

me red corner... got black corner or not (metallica, sepultura, pantera, etc.) - it's definitely not between red and blue...

got some chesky stuff i wanted over the weekend including ana caram's rio after dark, blue bossa and bossa nova... but the best cd i got was 'here i am' from marion raven...

however, i wouldn't recommend the album unless yours is like mine... autographed by her and you get a pix with her... hehe... she looks much prettier in person compared to the person on the CD cover and inside the liner (looks like a different person)... didn't know whom she was but enjoyed her solo acoustic performance (and she's cute) so bantai only buy cd collect poster and stood in line with a bunch of teenagers for her autograph... i thought she looked familiar... realised later she's one half of m2m... having listened to her solo effort, i'd recommend shades of purple from m2m... you get voices that go so well together, catchy tunes and some really fresh (still) and honest sounding bubblegum pop... good album... as fun as pokemon

m2m?!.......DUDE!.......oh mannnnnnnnnn....... and in the same post u mentioned CHESKY ..... talk about eclectic.... ekekekekek...

me from sekolah anak setan..... aka sek. alam shah..... kctam too..... dunno if anymore of us lurking around in the recesses of this hole....

u mrsm?....i know a number from different years ....old and young.....some forummers too but i dunno if they went to shamelin...... shamelin must be some pre-u centre or something right?

I listen to a little of everything depending on mood. whatever sounds nice on the first listen, gets more than a few plays and still sounds good after some time is good stuff. That's why m2m's shade of purple is just as enjoyable as metallica's ride the lightning or nanci griffith's last of the true believers. Unfortunately second-hand market for CDs in malaysia not as extensive so cannot simply bantai 10 copies every week. Got to be selective with purchases else end up with too many pieces of junk u don't listen to.

For audiophile labels, I like titles from Chesky and Naim. Have a some Linn stuff too but not too keen with the way their albums are recorded. They sound a little extreme (either some highs missing or accentuated). And the instrument driving the tempo of the music will sound most obvious. As expected, Linn/Naim music suited for demonstrating their gear - the older stuff.

a-levels at msm

Linn/Naim very single minded in their approach to music.....their way or no way!

A very memorable experience i had was at a hifi show in heathrow airport area in london .... Linn Isobariks + naim amps (monoblocs) + michell gyrodec TT = wow!!

It was in the MANA aCOUSTICS booth (hotel room actually) and it was Micheal hedges playing ...... equipment was sitting on mana acoustic's reference equipment tables naturally......very very realistic ....excellent...... remember it to this day.....

mana acoustic tables... whatever happen to them...

personally i prefer naim over linn. i ran the 62/140 for a while. naim 6pack active sbl system with their early cds player was one of the most farking exciting feet tapping system i've ever heard - rock music sounds seriously rocking and metal dem farking aggresive. it bloody hammers the rhythm and drive into your senses. however, the linn active keltik system fronted by LP12 Lingo Ekos Arkiv (and also the 1st generation karik/numerik) made a bigger impression. i got to spend many hours with this system in a perfectly set up living/demo room at one of their dealers. there are many better systems (especially when measured against typical hifi criteria) but it is the system i remember most and it was this system that introduced me to many new music...

naim six pack + SBLs?! I am not worthy dude

The best I ever got was marantz + audiolab (8000As ...veli nice)+ KEFs....but they got stolen when I moved into my first house in shah alam.... after that i never went back..... stuck to my in car cd player (some cheapo kenwood) and a micro hifi thingy at home.... stopped buying ori CDs too..... now only buy the ....urrrrmmm .... best buy variety......

Maybe I'll get a 'proper' brit system again sometime but not now too many things need my attention :)

By the way....from my memory, naim systems tend to be on the 'bright' side arent they? But rythm wise, timing, speed is SUPER EXCELLENT..... bass is super tight.... you are lucky to enjoy such a system  .....

The thing is, the 6pack+sbl are considered to be the dogs bollocks in the UK but seems a bit 'mid range' when compared to the american stuff pushed here like Krells, Martin Logans..... the hifi scene here seems to cater more to home theatre or (super high end) stuff.... lots and lots of valve jobs (CJs etc.)

Sorry I dont pretend to know the local hifi scene (or the uk scene) as much as maybe WJ or some of the other dudes here .... Like I said, I have since moved to lower end stuff ekekekekekek

Sorry getting off track... CDs playing in my car right now:

1. duran2 ...greatest hits EMI import (first ori cd bough in 2 years)

2. ABBA .... because ikea plays them on and on and on and on .....

3. metallica .... the one with the all black sleeve ....enter sandman...

back in kl... here's what's in the changer
1. nina live - nina (nice cover on love moves in mysterious ways)
2. romanza - andrea bocelli
3. ride the lightning - metallica
4. meet me in london - antonio forcione+sabina sciubba
5. clock without hands - nanci griffith

US amps big and powerful... big houses and huge space over there I guess... probably a reflection of their nature too... big powerful bullies... those with big houses and lots of dough go for krell monsters and giant speakers... those with limited space and money like yours truly stick with audiolab and baby sonus...

currently in the changer...
1. suede - suede
2. metallica - master of puppets
3. marion raven - here i am
4. lindsay lohan - speak
5. mary chapin carpenter - shooting straight in the dark

crap.. I only have an Acoustic Energy 5 in 1 home theater set, still lying in the box. Won't install until I get my new house. .Huwaaaa..

U guys enjoy.

Joss Stone is not that bad too although one song had a lousy recording/edit.

:D

affan, u like me la...i also havent unpacked my rotels and nhts hahaha

erica34 - you are the only other person I know who would willingly put a Nanci Griffith CD in your changer! No one I know knows about her... I hv only 1 album (live concert) - very homely, folk, tunes. :D

I've started moving to iPod driven music on the road... I like the idea of having almost my entire collection of CDs accessible anytime - that way I can listen to anything anytime.

What do you think of compressed music? I am ready to compensate some of the quality over convenience.

Of course.. I still have the problem of linking up into the stock system ... currently using a tape adapter! Too much treble.. no bass.. but at least the music is there... and if you play loud enough the static will be drowned out!

feizal.. u got NHTs ah?? waduh..
I sold off everything when I got my first baby.

This is what I had:
NHT 2.5
NHT 1.1C
NHT Super Ones... (5.1 system)

before that, had NHT Super Zeros
Rig consists of Rotel CD player and B & K amp and B & K AV processor. All sold. So sad...

hi schone, nanci griffith is one of my favourite... she's got quite a number of albums... i like her earlier work... my top 3 picks
- last of the true believers
- lone star state of mind
- other voices other rooms*
next 3...
- little love affairs
- poet in my window
- flyer*
if you're particular about sound quality, the marked titles* from the 90s are decent... the other listed albums are from the 80s and i find them more enjoyable on the caukia stereo in the bedroom...

personally i'll stick to CDs... no cdr, pasar malam or mp3 stuff... pasar malam stuff when i hear a hot song on mtv or the radio and want to listen to that particular song 10 times a day for a week/two (before it becomes junk)...

mp3 and whatever compressed formats there are out there fantastic for convenience... only play mp3 on notebook so can't comment on sound quality... don't think i've heard the best cd can offer... got a few xrcd and sacd but don't have the right gear... tarak budget to upgrade...

NHT... Never Heard Them before...

NHT - Now Hear This. It's a US speaker company and it's founder and chief engineer is Ken Kantor.
www.nhthifi.com A & L audio at Sg Wang stocks them.

I love these speakers. A bit American sound, but matched with a Euro-based CD source and some warmer sounding electronics, it can give wonders.

NHT SuperZeroes all around
NHT SW2Pi
Rotel 2 Channel Amp
Rotel 6 Channel Amp
Rotel Surround Proc

All in perfect working condition :D

U know of any NHT dealer in kl?

at the level most can realistically afford, say RM10-15K for a single source (CD) system, the improvement over the past 10 years has not been that significant (plenty of progress at the lower end and top end though)... there are some really good 10+ year olds that can still get the job done nicely... mine all about that old oledi... ahkakaka....

hey...my sony 5.1 system can play SACDs but I dun have any software....

erica dude (or is it.....) LINDSAY LOHAN?! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yum...... my daughter likes LL, me just tumpang sekaki onli  .... but in that video where she wants to come 'first' ... she lost a lot of weight oredi.... why larrrrr

feisal! U kenal ashwar ya? Heard u sellin yr ride..... and your plans ..... veli nice..... must do a CBJ meet .... all the monsters can meet..... it will be a 'MONSTER FEST!'

In the car right right now - U2 fest!
- U2 .... somethin about dismantling an atomic bomb...
- U2 ..... that tree thing......
- U2 .....achtung baby.... very gooot!....
- Jimi hendrix ....not U2....compilation........VODOO CHILD rocks!

joshua tree absolutely must have cd... super music but shitty sound quality... haven't quite figured out achtung baby after listening to it for years... some tunes me like but others like the band already gila... interesting album... go u2!

lindsay lohan same gang with ashley simpson... more screaming than singing (christina aguilera, jessica simpson better)... but she's more attractive and i prefer the songs on her album...
