Setting the centrifugal advance in the distributor

Can anyone recommend a guru who can set the centrifugal advance in the distributor post electronic ignition conversion for a classic Alfa running two twin choke DCOE 40mm Webers? He must be famaliar with the car to begin with. Cheers...

you can do it yourself

get a timing light and loosen the distributor advance

timing should not be 2 degrees off

rev and listen to pinging at medium and high revs


and.......aiyo, i tought it was a bimmer engine.....

hmmm,, can try and give it a go, but with twin choke its much harder to tune and advance, ask me, i've tried with the bike.....

maybe a bike tuner who tunes v-twins can help out, ducatis are notoriously hard to tune

I believe you meant the spring-loaded weights inside the distributor unit which is the centrifugal advance weights. If this is the case, it can be quite difficult to set it 'right' ...... agak-agak can lah!

To set it right, you'll need a special machine or timing setting tool NOT available in Malaysia. The distributor needs to be taken out and fitted into the machine to allow it to respond accordingly with results for you to make the adjustments.

I am not an expert in Alfas, but have medelled enough with older generation distributors. Just playing with the spring tension of the weights alone can affect the overall timing and performance of the engine.
i used to shave off some meat from the weights to lighten them to get better advanced ignition. Engine response did improve, however.

But these days ... it's all electronics so no need to bother.
