I have recently bought a 2004 recon 525i (Japan Specs). My problem is that when I maintain the speed at between 40kmh - 60kmh, the engine sometimes will jerk. This also sometimes happen even at 80kmh. Say at a speed of 60kmh, when it jerks, the rpm needle keeps moving between 1.5 to 2. At the same time, I can hear some air sound being sucked in or pumped out...sounds like "puhh...puhhh..."Sometimes, when I accelerate from 20kmh by pressing on the pedal, I feel the engine drags and jerks at the same time.My mechanic couldn't find any engine fault by using the computer analysis machine.A friend told me that I need to change the ECU Computer Chip/Board (??) as the oxygen/air combination in Japan is different from Malaysia.Anyone can help??? many thanks in advance.Cheersbmw_pc

i have the same predicament with my jap-spec 525i.. but mine mainly occurs in Reverse and and 1st ie when u're moving off from a standstill.
i have yet to take it for a check cuz other than the situations mentioned earlier, its all operations normal during other times.

anyone else with the same problem?

i haven't even started tinkering with it and already its giving problems..

Guys, I am thinking of buying a Jap spec 530. Just wanna ask, did these problems come after a while? Or since Day 1? If so, didn't you spot this problem when you test drove the car?

the prob didn't appear when i had my test drive..maybe i was too blinded by the prospect of buying a bimmer again after a short hiatus.

try this :

change another type of petrol and see if you face the same problem ...

I had this problem before with my jap spec 525i... Like wise, my mechanic could not find any problem with it and just asked me to switch to another type of petrol ....

To date I ve not faced any problem .... (Two mths now)

Cheers

have you try to 'buang carbon' aka decarbonised. ..... cheapest way is at KLIA highway .

 haha..good'un.

actually did that already, took it to 220+kph..thing is,she actually runs fineat medium to high speeds, its only during reverse and while moving off from a standstill that the juddering happens.its not extreme juddering tho, just some light judders.
i'm just curious as to why this happens in such a new car.peculiar to say the least..

somehow, i also didnt notice it during test drive.
last mon, d mechanic has confirmed tat d computer box (guess must be d ECU..) is faulty. d part has now arrived and i m replacing it tomorrow.
let's see how it goes after d change.
will update after that.

my local AB 525i also judder when driven at low speed...complain to AB in Segambut and they replace the gearbox oil and run the transmission re-adaptation to reprogramme the tranny...

at the end when i got the car back afta 1 wee...still judder but not as bad as last time...will be going back again....

hi all,

just got back d car.
after replacing the computer chip, car feels normal so far.
no more jerking at low speed or when i press d pedal.
in fact, it feels more responsive now. lucky mine is under warranty by d dealer. so i don't have to pay for the chip.

interesting... so many solutions to a single problem.

still having the problem..tho i've learnt to ignore it for the time being.still amazed as to why the e60 has so much little niggles.didn't have these with my e30,e36,e46..

damn.

i should've gone for that Subaru Legacy GT i was planning to get before my wife stomped her feet and said 'i want the bimmer!!!' .. just joking hhahaha..

Try change the spark plugs bro.. some plugs might look ok but it does not fire right. Low RPM's misfire will cause jerk. Cheap fix.. Use original spark plugs ya not the platinium or iridium ..

My two cent

Look a spark plugs, air filter and change to 97 RON fuel...maybe this will help.

Ignition coil problem? But then that should get you a warning from the computer.
