Update from CH:

Both road is not officially gazetted yet. There is a temporary gazette for the CH-Sg.Pulai road but still no official news on the CH-Gua Musang road. Once the road has been gazetted, JKR will take over the maintenance of those roads. As of now, those roads are still not under JKR's care.

From what I hear, there have been no issues with insurance claims for accidents on these roads. Accidents happen regularly on the Simpang Pulau road mostly caused by speeding. The Gua Musang road is safer.

Btw you guys interested in the Cameron Highlands Reforestation program?

Cheers

JKR will only take over once the whole package is ready which is from simpang pulai in perak to kuala berang in terengganu. So for know the road is maintained by MTD which is the contractor for this project. According to the police this road is gazetted that is what the OCPD told me.The stretch from Cameron to gua musang, half is under the control of Cameron police and the other half is under gua musang police.
As for fuel that why we all stop at gua musang for fuel. From gua musang to Cameron is only 100km so refuel in gua musang is a must. From KL to gua musang there is no problem with petrol pump.

Good and detailed info here in this whole thread... thanks...

I'm not suprised with the conflicting information we are getting. This is nothing new here where the authorities can give verbal approvals for a lot of things instead the usual 'black and white'

One end, the police says its gazetted, the other end JPJ and police is issuing summons to tour companies who ferry tourist on this road saying that its not gazetted.

Anyway, if the police says its ok, i guess you wont have problems with any claims.

:D

Based on the info so far, the estimated distance would be:

1. KL-Bentong-Kuala Lipis-Gua Musang - 285km (from my GPS)
2. Gua Musang-Cameron (Brinchang or Tanah Rata?) - 100km
3. Cameron (Tanah Rata)-KL - 240km (from my GPS, not sure which road it used, Tapah or Simpang Pulai)

So total distance is around 625km, probably plus a bit more.. maybe 675km to be safe.

If you know the law my friend the reason they are being summon is very simple. All this company when issued their licence in it is always written the route that they can use so when when they detour from what they are given of course they will be summons. They have to apply for this route when approve than can use la kawan.I know this for fact because one of my family member is in this business. You are wright in a way it is not gazetted in their permit of the tour buses company CHIEF.

Sorry i didnt make my earlier statement clear. What i meant was, that when the Polis/JPJ issue the summons, they also say that the road is not gazetted. I know that the summons are for ferrying tourists on routes which are not on their permit.

The point i was trying to make is that there is no clear picture on the status of this road. Everyone I talk in CH seems to have an different answer or unsure. It could be gazetted, it could be a temporary gazette with conditions or there might not be a gazette at all. Unless there is a clear announcement or someone authoratative puts in in writing, we will never know.

Cheers

Just got the clear picture from the police, jkr and lembaga lebuh raya malaysia. have spoken to them today and all of them says the road is gazetted. Jkr dont maintain roads any more this days it is done by company call roadcare.

FYI guys...

Done Kuala Terengganu - Besut - Bukit Yong - Kuala Krai - Gua Musang - Cameron Highland - Ipoh last Monday. The road condition from Gua Musang until Cameron Higland is not very good. Traveling using Rexton 4WD so not that bad la guys. Tanah runtuh banyak:listen:

Ini jalan lain bro.Package for this road is frm spg pulai-cameron-guamusang-cikku-kuala berang-kuala terengganu. The above road dah lama siap bro.

I just talked to my colleague about the road from Kuala Lipis to Gua Musang. He was on it about 3 weeks ago. He says that the road is bumpy in the sense that there are sudden dips and rises, and that it would be problematic for cars with low clearance even at speeds of around 100km/h. His C-class was lowered and has a hard suspension and he scraped the bottom about 5 times during the drive.

Does anyone have any info to add on this? Am now concerned of possible damage to our cars if we go at high speeds on that stretch. Perhaps we'll need to self-impose a speed limit on ourselves (or have a recon car out in front to warn us of dangerous spots)?

You funny la traveler got meh road in malaysia made for lowered car. As long you do 110km no problem la bro .The last time i use the road was 1 month and i use the road regularly because of my work.

Hehe.. ok lah.. if you say can then I am not so worried now.. You know-lah just bankrupted myself to get the Banyak Makan Wang kereta, so now must jaga-jaga a bit when driving loh.

Let me now when is your trip maybe can arrange lunch in kuala lipis for you all. You will sure enjoy this trip.

Gunung Brinchang

Guys, what do you guys know about the current condition of the road from Cameron Highland's Brinchang to Gunung Brinchang? Suitable for a manual tranny E36 to climb? Hmmm, this is starting to sound like that UDM up Genting thread... :p

Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, Gunung Brinchang (at approx 6,666ft above sea level, from my memory) should be the highest point accessible by a car in the peninsula side of this country... Was there maybe a dozen years ago during my uni days, in a rented Saga 1.3, gutless as it may be, it didn't overheat, neither did it miss a beat, was on 1st gear most of the way, it was so steep that I couldn't change up from 1st... And while up there, this old late 1970s Mercedes Benz 240D taxi came chugging up with some mat salleh tourists, looked quite effortless too... I guess that is what a diesel is meant for...

Btw, Gunung Tahan, the highest point here in the Peninsula is just some 500ft higher or so...

Was there a couple of weeks ago ..... . Hugh potholes and uneven surfaces especially at one strecth as you get closer to the peak. The same spot had multiple landslides in the last one year. I wouldnt recommend anything less than a 4WD.
