Really haven't got used to karting yet. Dare not push too hard into the corners... and thought I could catch up in the straights... except that my top speed wasn't there too. :(

Maybe a few more rounds of karting, then that will be a different matter.

This is the theory, if you are slow going in and coming out of the corners, chances are you will be slow in the straight as well. The whole idea is carrying speed through the corners and that depends on picking the right lines (apex), braking and acceleration points. Once you are slow coming out from the corner, the person behind with the faster speed and hence momentum will overtake you, unless of course your go kart has got a better engine or you weight less than 40kg :)

OIC...

al,

How about this?
- person in front slower
- you are much faster and braked later
- person in front takes the racing line
- person behind has no choice but to brake hard
- person behind loses speed and risks skidding and can't overtake.

It's a racing strategy but it is quite difficult to overtake especially if you are 10 positions down and almost half a lap behind top karters in the first place.

affan, wanna try the next time... I will be the moving chicane...

If you are faster, then you will have to wait for the right moment to overtake. In kart races, when the person in front takes the racing line means he will go outside to go in & hit the apex. Well if you are faster & brake later, whatr they do is take the inside line or middle of track & drift slighly in front of the other kart forcing him to brake hard instead of you. if he doesn he will bump into you But thats ok in a kart race. Chances are he will spin off if he bump you. its permitted in karting. The better drivers actually follows the front karts like 2inches away preassuring the front to make a mistake. Sometimes they even bump you to tell you are slow.
Not for car races though.

If you are 10 places down like i was, just try to drive As fast as you can to gain position lor. Definately not gonna reach the leaders but at least not last place.

Last couple of practises i did with bothe Jules & Eris, they were so close that when i look back i couldnt see them.

If you are significantly faster, you shouldnt have much trouble overtaking. You may not be able to overtake, say in Turn 1, but by forcing the driver ahead of you driving defensively (closing the door as they called it), you will have the opportunity in the following corner. Now, if you are only slightly faster than the other driver, then it will be difficult, and like what Alvin said, pressure him into making mistake ala F1
