BMW interior designer take note: E90 interior ergonomics/safety improvement needed

Hei Rachel, I checked the handbook and unfortunately you can't activate or control your cruise control with it. But you CAN activate your speed limiter! So what you can do is go into Navigation and set your Limiter to 90kmh. Then when you enter a 90kmh zone, you activate Voice Input and say "Limit On". When you leave the zone you say "Limit Off". This can be very useful indeed to avoid speeding tickets in known speed trap stretches. :top:

Actually that's easily done. It will only increase the price of the car by ~3k.

Alo! Just 1 line of programming only la.. no need to shut the vent... I use my hand!

IF left_butt_sensor = 0 THEN disable_left_cabin_temp_operation = TRUE

My estimate is based on German programming cost per conditional expression:
One IF = RM1k
One THEN = RM1k
Program testing and debugging = 1k

~3k lor... :D

Hei Rachel, I tried my cruise control for the first time this morning after reading the handbook last night. I must say it's well-designed and user-friendly. The little indicator that shoots up the outside of the speedometer is very cool. :top:

It's so easy to use, I think I'll start using it for 90kmh stretches to avoid tickets (which I have been getting and paying too) So now you have two options. I could use the limiter too, but I don't have Voice Input, so it's less convenient for me.

Oh. To add to the list. My mum complains that the glove box is too small to fit to whole set of owner's manuals. All of our other cars (non-BMW) can. =) I don't find the key a problem as we have Comfort Access. HAH. Seriously, I don't find it a problem even without CA. Our old 230E Merc had the key on the left side of the steering.

The manual package fits nicely in the compartment next to the first aid kit in the trunk.

Is it a defect in the e90 that I'm driving? Since none of you seems to think that the aluminum panel is chilled beyond normal? I hope there isn't a leak on the duct or something.

Exhibit #1. Left thigh against the edge. I realized my thigh was not even touching the aluminum panel. All the time I thought it's touching (because it's beyond cold). Proof in exhibit #2.

#2 thigh not touching the aluminum panel, only leaning against the PVC black material which is also very cold. So it has nothing to do with whether it's wood panel or aluminum panel.

So what do you guys think? Leak in the air con duct? The air con duct diagram for e90 can be seen from this url. It seems like item #18 in the diagram.

Hmm.. you may have a leak or improper insulation. I sometimes lean my knee just like you, and I don't feel it to be exceptionally cold at all.

My opinion, Viewfinder:
1. Your seat is too far back
2. Your left leg is not stretched out and your foot is not resting on the foot rest
3. You wouldn't be sitting like that if you were wearing a skirt

Q: You shave your shins arr? :D

Viewfinder: Your picture referred....After sorting out your cold knee issue, methinks you need suntan!

Hokay bro, I went out for dinner just now, and checked the situation in my car. Your seat is not too far back because my knee is in the same location as yours. But because I stretch out my leg and my foot is on the footrest, it's my shin that's touching the console side, not my knee. More importantly than that, the plastic of the console and transmission tunnel is not even cool, only the aluminium is cool, but not cold. So it could well be that you have a ducting problem there!

Conclusion: fix the ducting, let the hair grow on your shins, and get a suntan. That should solve all your problems. :D

1. Get your AC ducting checked
2. Wear a skirt when driving
3. Don't touch yourself *there*
4. Stop shaving legs
5. Get a tan
6. Graduate to long pants
7. Teflon tape and waxco the plastic
8.
9.
10.

Happy CNY to all and drive safely! :D

Simple Solution - Wear Long Pants. Ditch the bermudas

Wear long pants how to get sun tan?

ps it's not bermudas, it's just a pair of normal above-knee khaki shorts .

Long pants or short pants that console PVC area feels cold. And there's enough confirmation from all of you that the situation ain't normal. Definitely another trip to A.B., driving up the # of quality issue post-sale (i.e. problem found on the field instead of their 6 assembly quality check stations).

Yeah, my seat is almost track day position except back seat angle is 1~2 notch more recline to the back.

Thanks for the help. Happy CNY 恭喜發財

Off topic - Can't help with the super-fine hair around the shins and non-suntan situation. Evolution...

Sssshhhhhhhh! I thought we agreed not to tell the others? ;)

GXFC everyone!

Figuring from the initial response here, I can foresee what A.B. service may think when I bring in the car. I happen to receive a thermometer and put it to use. Now I have concrete numbers to tell AB.

- OBC outside ambient temp 29C.
- Victorinox traveler set thermometer ambient ~29C (analog dial),
- after ~10min of driving with 21C setting, the traveler set thermometer reading shows ~21.5C.
