I don't know about USA, but I've had some experience in Germany before. The market may be offered a range of choices, but only the truly well-off can afford to enjoy them. The standard of living is actually rather high, a large portion of income is taxed by the government and health insurance is considered a necessity by those who can afford it; hence most of the aftermarket mods are targeted towards higher end cars. Unlike in Asia where most mods are for the low and mid end cars.

Btw, after you have spent a few months in Germany, the Autobahn isn't all that much different from most highways around the world. Sure the commuters have better road discipline, but driving fast on a straight road isn't that much of a challenge.

I grew up in California,Pasadena to be exact. My dad was at USC.Plenty of places to take ur car to it's limits.Very nice place for car nuts, the US.Lots of passionate people, plenty of tuners and plenty of makes to choose from.

My work takes me to Germany many times a month and yes,I've driven there.Apart from the autobahn, there are numerous racetracks where u can take ur car on weekends.Oh yeah, the autobahn is not like any other highway elsewhere. It was painstakingly designed to a very high standard and with very specific criterias in mind.Look it up.
I guess IF I were to work in Germany,I'd be on the mid to high income train..so no probs there. The key word here is IF.

End of the day tho,I guess anywhere u end up,there will be pros and cons..and being in these two countries is a definite pro where being a car enthusiast is concerned.

does a turbo timer needed for 320d ?

If I'm not mistaken, you don't need a turbo timer... The battery runs the cooling unit for a few minutes prior to full system shutdown.

What are you guys seeing for fuel consumption on your 320d? After around 5000km, I'm only averaging 7.7l/100km ie. around 750km on a full tank which seems on the low side. I am mostly on D not sport, not so heavy right foot, 70% highway.

How much are you averaging per 100km melvyn?

I am getting about 8L/100km... but I'm a very very very spirited driver... :)

The difference is MR1.70 per 100km for a more-spirited drive which is bloody worth it , I am sure you would agree Mel!

If you drive in Sports Mode all the time, you will defiantly average more then the "normal" drivers...

You are right Mel...already saved a lot by buying diesel...tekan all the way bro!

Just realized that 320D doesn't come with the 'shark fin' after driving it for 2 weeks.

With the 320d mikey....you enjoy driving it so much...you forget or don't notice the world around you...
Now try this...go on a holiday...say for 2 or 3 days...see whether you miss your 320d...whether you salivate at the thought of seating in her again, the feel of the thick steering in your palms...the torque that crushes you back into your seat...the power that turns you into a devil-may-cry overtaking daredevil....:smokin:

The shark fin is the satelite antenna, so it's there only if you have the sat-nav or sat-radio options. Some cars have a whole row of them though. :D

If you want to, you can buy a fin and stick it on top...but best be yourself, bro!
