Have u taken the plunge?

I am still trying to convince myself that the ASS is a brilliant idea to save fuel and Mother Earth. But every time when the ASS kicks in unexpectedly at the wrong time, I will curse and swear. Then of course the other problem is the jerk whenevr the engine restarts. Well, I give myself one to two months to try it out. Give face lah... The Germans spent so much money and effort to include this technology in the f30 only to receive so many complaints and request to disabled the function.

Different dealerships charges differently for the re-coding of the ASS. Some even did it FOC (depending on your relationship with the SA), haha. Yes, it takes the whole day for your SC to do the re-coding, some needed to leave the car there overnight. Don't really know why BMW needed such a long time to re-code when some people here (whom are IT savvy) can do it in 5 minutes. I've seen that guy do it on a F30 328i a few months back simply with a laptop and a cable.

Bro - What exactly was done? Complete de-activation of ASS or re-code to "Last User Mode"?

Recode to remember last setting. BMW don't allow total disable the ASS.

You don't need to even be IT savvy. All you need is the cable and a laptop. Took an hour to understand what I'm doing, and 30 minutes to get all the changes I wanted done. If I can do it, seriously, anyone who is bothered can.

I would not do it myself or at outside workshop as doing that would void my warranty for sure.

Actually, No. There are no signs of coding. Nothing you can't claim a different BMW Dealer coded it for you. Close to impossible to get your warranty voided over coding, because all it does is activate or disable settings already on your car. If paranoid to an extent, you can always revert all changes made before sending your car in.

I based my opinion on my SA comment when I wanted to enable the DVD in motion function. Apparently BMW dealers are not allowed to enable the DVD motion.

Only 159 bucks. So can sit back and relax, probably with a a cup of coffee at Ingress

DVD in motion is so dangerous.

Not for me to watch but for my home minister and the kids.

unless your home minister and the kids watch it with no volume. it is very distracting. also, the screen is angled towards you.. you will be distracted.

Like that no need to have DVD on the iDrive already since it's only for the driver. I prefer to watch at home rather than in the car.

I watch it all the time! Keeps me entertained in traffic jams I face on a daily basis :D My wife says it is distracting because I watch Top Gear on it and when she hears the screeching tyres from the show, she can't differentiate it hahaha. I also watch comedies during some of the weekend drives, keeps me calm and cool throughout the journey.

you guys should try with the ASS without the aircon. it work briliantly, and the jerk on the engine restart is obvious. most of the time in Germany/ Europe is cooler, not like Malaysia where we need aircond all the time, hence I have the opinion that it is not suitable for our weather.

I try to on the ASS only when i don't use the aircon - early morning/night time when i want to get some fresh air. :)

I switch the ASS off every time I start the engine. I hate it very much.

If you hate it so much, then go code it off. It's a hassle having to press the ASS button every time.

While I realize and understand the function of ASS, in reality the jerks which I encountered seems to give me the impression that the wear and tear of the engine will come sooner than expected :p
