Hi Azam, just read your posting and its sad to hear about your E36. Anyway thank god that you & family are OK. Hope you get your car back soon. FYI last friday afternoon my wife's car kena pecah passenger window while waiting at the traffic lights near Ampang - second time this happened to her. 1st time they got her handbag which was on the passenger seat. This time although the handbag was out of sight, the guy was trying his luck but got nothing. Again glass got smashed and messed up the interior. The car had V-cool secure but it did not stand up to the guy's punches - came down after 3 punches. Really sick - wife frightened, car damaged and the idiot got away on motorcycle (he was not alone). Ladies beware when you are driving alone - you never know when these idiots are going to strike on you.

Times are bad, crime rates are soaring despite the statistics said otherwise, perhaps some are not reported.

A friend got robbed at Kota Kemuning last week after withdrawing $$ for his staff. Shortly after he left Maybank, the car in front of him (Audi A6) and a BMW (E60) which was behind him, got him sandwiched. The robber alighted, walked towards his car and smashed his window glass demanding for the $$, and all this happened on broad day light!

Engine Oil

Hi! There,

I am new here...not sure how to use this forum and may have inconvenienced.... I have engine oil leakage issue and the white smoke keeps coming out from the exhaust pipe ... it gives bad smell and discomfort.. May I know if this is all right to leave it such ? My mechanic (wihom I do not trust) asked me to do overhaul for > RM10k... (Might as well buy a new car)... I would like to hang on with this car till at least next year... any advice please if this would affect my car badly leaving the engine oil issue ??

First of all, welcome to the Club's forum and the Ampang TT thread.

If you have not already introduced yourself in the 'Newbies' section, please do so in that section and do use the 'newbie template'.

For questions that you have posted above, it is best to post them in the proper sections in this forum to get the best responses [this is a members meet up thread anyways].


However, to quickly [and perhaps roughly] answer your questions above [as no details are given as to the make/model of your ride], there are various reasons as to why you experience the 'leakage' & 'white-smoke' issue,

• oil leakage
  • burnt/warped gaskets due to engine overheating
  • cracked engine [the most dreadful cause]
• white smoke
  • non optimum combustion of fuel [air-fuel mixture]
    • air-flow sensor malfunction
    • leakage to the combustion chamber

These are just a few of them and are of my own 'inexperienced opinion'. There may be various other reasons, or a combination thereof [it usually is].

The best is for you to run a proper diagnostic test of your ride. To do this, just go to any of the 'specialist' workshops. Any of these 'specialist' workshops worth their salt would have a diagnostic tool to run the specific tests. It is also a good practice to get a second opinion on the diagnostic and the quotation for the work to be done for comparision purposes. Good luck and keep us posted.

Two possible scenarios,

1) Exhaust emits white smoke in the morning
This will require a top overhaul with the valve seals replaced. Price should be more
or less 3k.

2) Perpetually emits white smoke even engine is fully warmed up
Required complete engine overhaul, with the piston rings being the culprit.
Depending on the severity of the problem, may cost upward of 5k, if oversized
pistons are required. Or alternatively, get a used engine and junkyards, which is
probably a cheaper and faster alternative.
