Dear e60 owners, Tried to find a thread specific to the subject matter and especially for e60 but failed miserably. Am hoping someone out there can help. My aircon as of late is going berserk. It blows cool air, all well and good most of the time and when i drive for an extended period of time (be it start and stop or continuously), all of a sudden the blower doesn't work as it should. Tried blasting the air blower control. Seems like the air within is stuck/blocked and at times hot air gets blown out. When i start the car the next day or after an extended period of time, the air con is back to normal. Took it to an air con guy recommended by an ex-AB service advisor. The guy said that the air con blower regulator is faulty. I got it changed but after a week or so of driving it I had the same problem. Anyone out there have experienced this? If so, please share your views. BTW, I'm in JB - if you can recommend a reliable air con guy who is familiar with e60, much appreciated!

Yes! Got the problem for the first time while balik kampung for CNY. With the traffic and hot weather it was a real pain. Lucky after fiddling with air con controls, it came back after about 30 minutes. Seems like air is stuck somewhere. Can hear the air blowing at full blast but somehow only a little air comes out. Maybe it's a termostat resistor problem?

So far problem never came back, but still would like to prevent it before the next long journey.....

Sounds exactly like the problem I had. What did you fiddle with exactly? Let me know if you discover a solution.
Thanks!

What you have to do is just go to the AB or workshop that has GT1 diagnosis tool. Get it diagnose and they can simply rectify the problem. The E60 A/C electronics control is very complicated that not many A/C can do it.

I got my car stranded for few weeks in A/C shop until they give up. Then I sent to AB and after 5 minutes they said one of the wiring has contact problem. Cost me only RM20.00.

To be honest, I don't know exactly what worked. When you have the kids & wife in a hot car on a hot day with heavy traffic you don't exactly think of analyzing what you're doing. Anything goes as long just to get things back to normal

Basically fiddled with all the settings in the iDrive Climate control menu. Changed program to soft, to medium, to intensive several times. Changed the blower distribution (head, body, legs) several times, switched off air cond for 5 minutes, etc etc..

In the end, what worked was I just pressed the "MAX" button. Air still seemed stuck initially but after a few seconds luckily came back to normal. But it could have been a combination of what I was doing earlier so I don't think that's the real solution.

But looks like your problem is worse since it's happening more frequently. Mine happened that one time and (touch wood!) hasn't come back since. So I guess have to wait for you to let us know what the final solution is. For me, if it doesn't come back, then will just wait until next service before checking it out.

Good luck bro!

Bro, was your problem same as what we described?

bro maverick00, i think the problem is icing at the cooling coil. due to "uncontrollable" cooling, the cooling coil has been iced up. cooling coil looks just like a coolant radiator. the basic principle of it as below:

Blower motor (blows air to)
l
l
l
V
Cool Gas --> Cooling Coil --> Warm Gas
l
l
l
V
A/C Vent at dashboard (Output)

so when the cooling coil has been blocked by the ices created by the "uncontrollable" cool gas, this will prevent the air blown by the blower motor to go through it and exits at the a/c vent. this is usually sign of a faulty output temp sensor (located inside front center a/c vent) or even temperature/pressure sensor at the a/c line itself. what u can do to counter this event are :

i) set ur a/c to auto mode. this will reduce the possibilities of this problem happening again due to the a/c control unit will measure the interrior temp according to a few factors such as output temp, outside temp, sun coordination etc

ii) get to ur nearest SC and complain on this matter. they will usually replace one of the sensors. they can detect faulty sensors by their diagnostic machines and also by comparing data values

iii) in case of a sudden icing, turn the blower speed to MAX and adjust the temp tp 30 degrees at the a/c display. this will activate the a/c coolant pump, where warm air will be blown and helps to lessen the icing issue. after 5 mins of doing that, u will start feeling a correct amount of air coming out of the a/c vent. so now adjust back to your desired temp. it is better if u add a few degrees from your desired temp to let the cooling coil not to iced up again. when u have time, then bring itover to your nearest SC

hope this helps. Happy troubleshooting! =)

Thanks oligokoko. You seem technically well informed. Your theory seems to make sense. My dad had a similar theory as well. I will definitely try your method on setting the ac on auto.

Cheers mate!

i got the same problem:(..anyone h solve the problem? mind to tell me the solution??

Noise from aircon blower-E60

Dear all,
Just checking whether anyone having the same aircon problem that I'm having. The aircon blower is giving me a headache as it gives a noisy sound which I can't describe. It comes intermittently...I know it is not from the engine cos when I switch off the aircon, the sound disappear. Can someone advice me on this?

i think the sound come from the air cond blower motor. got it changed to a new one and the sound went off. i did it in a car air cond. shop in klang and the damage to my pocket was around rm1k+

hi all,

just to share - my problem solved. All i do these days is leave my aircon on auto and adjust temp and intensity on iDrive. Works!

Cheers

Correct diagnoses...heard about this from air con experts. If there's a noise it should be the blower.

Guys, am still getting this problem despite setting it to auto. Anyone found solution to this problem?
