air-con compressor clutch not engaging

Hi....My ride is E46 318i (2001). Having problem engaging the air-con clutch; i.e it refuses to engage esp after parking the car in the hot sun after sometime. Have no problem with the air-con when car is started in the morning. Went to an air-con specialist - he recommended that I replace the whole compressor, but the compressor is still in good condition as it can still cool the car very well. Is there anywhere I can get the compressor clutch fixed (w/o replacing the compressor)?

If you are around PJ, I sugguest that you see Naidu. Most of the forummer recommend him for air con problem. I think his shop is near the old EPF building just off Jalan Gasing. Do a search on "Naidu" or aircon.

Went to several workshop re:above, but none is able to have the clutch repaired at the workshop. A shop in JB said that it could only be done at a factory (meaning the whole compressor has to be taken to the factoy !)

A way out is to replace the compressor with a re-con of the same make and model so as to ensure compatibility.

Here's what a shop in Tmn Skudai did to solve the problem:

Replace compressor with a re-con RM 480
Replace receiver/drier RM 180
Recharge aircon gas 134A RM 60
Labour RM 120
======
Total RM 840

Now I don't have to worry about hot/rainy weather!!

Why not just wire it to be permanently on? This country is so hot 24x7 anyway.

wired permanently on? >>> hahahaha.... how do you do that...? There's nothing wrong with the wiring.... but something INSIDE the clutch is not 'clutching' ON

I believe the function of the clutch is to protect the compressor from being 'overworked' i.e it disengaged the compressor to prevent overheating!!
