Active Steering Fault!!!

oh yes...this Active Steering Fault is a never ending story for me too. I had the steering column and angle snesor both replaced by AB, and today i still get this error every now and then. Time and money wasted, but this fault will reset itself each time up to now. And the AB SC told me the computer is reseting itself every time....what a joke!

I am looking for the tool to reset this fault permanently thru coding if possible.

guys,

I had this problem before. Even after rotate the steering left and right, the AS did not reset. Sent to Ab they said need to change steering rack which cost a bomb.

I solved the probelm just by sending to mechanic who has the autologic and reset the steering which cost me RM200 only in whcih other OBD cant do the resetting even the OPPSS from AB. For the last 2 years no more issues.

Hi r37720, my mechanic has used his computer/machine to re-initialize/reset for me but to no avail. My next course of action would be to change the steering sensor first failing which the steering rack would be the next target. Interested to know that you managed to solve by just resetting with your mechanic's autologic. Mind to share the details and location of your mechanic? Tq

the usual culprit is the angle sensor...after a while the optical disc gets clouded on one of its sides that has some kind of coating which is likely due to our climate...I experience this twice on different car and most mechanic recommend replacing it while still under warranty, but I decided to DIY to see if it can be fixed without replacing so I open up and remove this optical disc...I then clean it by rubbing with fingers gently to remove the 'clouding'...after installing it, it works fine and haven't have the issue since...but I decided to replace it at the end of my cars warranty for peace of mind but this thing will happen again...

if u are trying to DIY please do it at your own risk...not easy for those not familiar with the removal...TIS would be helpful if you have it...

bro... mind to share which workshop and location that has the autologic device. TQ

Dear all sifus, I have this active steering problem after about 12 to 13 minute of driving from start. Anyone has similar problems before and knows the solution? The AS will turn off after restarting the car and reappear after the same time period of 12-13 minutes.

don't worry.. no major problem.. just park somewhere flat, on "P" gear, turn left till habis, then right till habis and make it to the center... off engine a while.. start back, if still got just repeat the process...

Thks msyizz for responding. I have tried that many times before but the AS light still comes on after 12 - 13 minutes of driving.

Hi all, I know this in old posting but I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. Had mine E60 525 sent to BMW world in Kg Pandan. They serviced the SZL column and laser optic disc behind the steering. Now the active steering fault message gone. It costs me RM500 for the service, wheel alignment and balancing..

U should get one. It's a gem to drive. Two things - Get a well maintained unit, then maintain it well. It will give you less headaches.

kayzhen,
Let me share my personal experience. Buying one is the easiest part but maintaining it is totally a different story. Be prepared to put aside some RM 500-800 per month on an average basis to keep the UDM at its best. As the saying goes, "if you wanna play, you have to pay" :top:
