hi all sifus,Today when I pass pj new town epf, I didn't notice and ran into a big hole. Now the idrive showed "active steering fault" and "drive stability". Anyone experienced it before? What can I do now beside go to the workshop? The car seem alright for me but the error still there. Thanks.

u need to plug in the BMW GT-1 to check the nature of the warning message...any BMW specialist workshop should have one...

I had that before.

Turn the car off and back on, and its still there.

Turn it off overnight and its gone the next day. Maybe had to let the car go into sleep mode?

Apparently something about abnormal angle momentarily as you went into the pothole on the steering angle sensor

If its gone the next day, i wouldnt worry

I have that before on mine and to rectify it, I sent for alignment & balancing and most importantly to correct the steering angle. The steering angle sensor detected off position and this causes those warning messages pop out (especially the DTC/DSC lights).

regardless of the warning signal goes off or not better send it in for inspection as the collapsible steering column part will be compromised due to the heavy shock to it...premature failure will cause reduce control to the car...hehe

actually bro kenny right, mind the error MSG the next day. I'm a happy man again.

I think the e60 too sensitive, or too safety. ;)

i was changing all the bolts (all wheels) with car parked stationary (engine running). half way through, the doors locked itself out! having finished my job 45 min. later, i used a spare key fob to open the door to find all the DSC, Steering, Tyre, Handbrake warnings...went off..they kept showing non stop no matter how i turned the steering, rev the engine, released the handbrake..and i told myself i screwed up something!!!

and i remembered some member once said "take a drive and the warning signs might disappear" when he changed his suspension setup...

so i took a drive immediately. in less than 10 sec of driving, the warning signs all gone and everything back to normal. i was like 'phew', god damn it! saves me the trouble to drive all the way to the dealer for diagnose...

Try resetting it by doing a full left turn and a full right turn then turn it back to the centre. The warning should disappear.

Just want to share experience on this issue for guideline to others

1. I had this issue. One night i parked the car and when start the engine, the active steering malfunction and asked me to send the car to the SC. At that time the streering still feels lighter but you need more steering rotation for full lock. I also notice that the signal light cannot automatically off.
2. Called Lee Motor (authorise BMW SC at Alor Setar) and they proposed to reprogram the ECU. After leave the car almost whole day, they told me that the issue was the electronics at the streering rack kaput and need to replace to whole system that cost me around RM14K.
3. Sadly bring back the car and live with the problem for few weeks. Then I got opportunity to loan one aftermarket diagnosis tool (Launch) and try to reset. No success but get worse, the streering getting heavier - not the I drive message asked me to turn off the engine to initialise. Rotate the strering to the left and right also did not help. But one good thing the tool ask me to perfrom calibration that the tool itself does not have the capability
4. Later I called another workshop described the problem and they told me very sure electronics at steering rack got problem which cost me RM12K.
5. Never give up - I managed to find one workshop with GT1 relevant tools - Autologic diagnosis tool. He told me that also potential of steering rack ONLY if the calibration failed. So the guy hook up the autologic and calibrate.
6. Result - wooowww - I got back my active steering with just a simple calibration that cost me RM200.00

Lesson learnt
1. If you have this problem start with calibration. simple one with left and right streering wheel full lock.
2. If failed calibratw with GT1/Autologic calibration
2. If failed then check whether the steering angle sensor (SZL sensor) got problem
3. If failed then potential the streering rack is kaput.

Do take note that the diagnosis tool provide the indication on the malfunction of certain system or module or sensor but it may not be the root cause. It can be the effect of others that provide wrong signal to the sensors.

I currently have an issue with the restraints system in which the diagnosis tool pointed to gateaway module is malfunction (AB asked me to change for RM6K). further investigation the malfunction was due to the satellite sensor at the left side of B pillar. However, I m going to prove that even that sensor is not an issue. What I suspect is that the IBS cable provide the wrong feedback to the gateaway module. Next week I am going to buy the IBS sensor from Bavarian Auto which cost me RM120 only.

The negative battery cable is said has the IBS incorporated into it. But do you really think that the semiconductor sensor is embedded into the copper negative cable?

Can someone enlighten me on this?

mine one also the same problem?! once i start the car it appear ...but only for a while ....hai.....
