Hi all,I am planning to buy a e60 530i recond. This website has provide mountain of information to get me prepare before i start hunting down my 5 series. However, after visiting few grey importers...none of the salesmen manage to clearly prove to me whether the car is fitted with active steering and dynamic drive. So my question to all sifus here, how can someone tells if the car is fitted with the active steering and dynamic drive? can we check it thru the iDrive? or we have to send it to workshop for diognosis? so far all salesman i talked to claim that their 530i come with active steering and dynamic drive as standard...is it true?

Do a visual inspection. A good BMW Workshop should be able to help you with it. I would believe
most of the 530i would be equipped with Active Steering as a standard feature, as for Dynamic Drive that would depends on the year manufactured (and it is also an option item, if I recall correctly).

Cheers

don't believe everything a car salesman tells u..bunch of crooks they are.

i think if u get the vin number or the chassis number,u can have it checked out by someone with access to BMW's database ie someone working with Sapura/Ingress..

Active steering is standard on all E60. Dynamic drive is an option. If it has dynamic drive, it should also have the sport package installed. Though the reverse is not true.

You can bring it to any mechanic who has the diagnostic PC to check which features have been installed.

Thank u all for the responses...based on everyone's comments..i can conclude that there is no way a person can tell by visual inspection that the car has a dynamic drive fitted other than sending it to workshop for diognose...

hmm kinda difficult eh.

If the car has dynamic drive you will be able to see a motor connecting the two ends of the anti roll bar. What it does it to shorten/elongate the anti roll bar which will then make it harder/softer and helps the car to corner better. :)

as far as I concern... there is no Dynamic Drive in my Japanese Spec 525i 2005... only for Active Steering.

Dynamic Drive: Some say there should be an indicator on the dash when you start the engine. I can't verify that but if you jack the car up, you should be able to see the hydraulic actuators. Or, as one owner said try turning 90degree corners at above 80km/h, then you would know. :)

Active Steering: There is an icon when you start your engine. It's the top left most that looks like a steering wheel with a ! sign on the right.
Subjectively try do a tight u-turn. It's very obviously different when you have the AS.
