AC compressor failure

Hi all,My AC compressor recently produced some rattling sound when the clutch engaged. I've already refilled with new oil but the problem still persist.Today,it has already stop moving when the clutch engaged.for your info my tensioner bearing, belting , gas , temperature of AC all ok.Its an E46 318 with m43.Questions:Should I replace with a new compressor? or can we diagnose the compressor to troubleshoot the problem? How much a second hand compressor for E46? and usually how much the repair costs(assume that I need to flush the whole AC system)?Whats the worst can happen if I continue to drive , but without turning on the AC..?For now , i decided to turn off the AC as well as the blower and drive without AC.Thanks guys for the feedback.
