Sorry to slot in e60 thread. My e39 is having almost similar problem

1. If leave a car for sometimes or under hot condition, upon start cold air refuse to kick in. I notice that if I rev the accelerator up to 3000 rpm for few seconds then only the cold air kicks in. Recently even while driving and idle/slow, it back to no cool air so ...rev the engine to 3000 rpm than back to normal.

2. What could be the problem? Gas leaks? Pressure sensor? Clutch fan? Aircond filter clog?

3. I seek advise from one popular BMW third party aircond specliast, he said my compressor is not in good condition. I don't really buy it as the aircond still cold but intermittent. Especially when i rev to 3000 rpm.

Before I commit to change the compressor etc at around 2k, perhaps someone can advise me something else.

Bro Zidee...

This was the same problem i faced when i was driving my E39. That was the exact sympthom i got and eventually it died. I changed the compressor and some other things which cost me around RM 2100. The compressor alone is around RM1700-1800.

Now my E60 is showing same sympthom , and i agree with your theory , anyhow , something is wrong and we are not sure what is that .Better get second opinion.

For my case, i will wait for it to die again or i kena small lottery . :)

Hi bro, I faced a similar problem too last month with my e60, have a few air cond guys to check it out and was told I need to fork out at least a couple of grand to fix it. Then I got this contact from a guy in Penang to fix it at an amazing RM585 only

Bro . Ivan..

Most if the time , some unreliable mechanics will choose to take short cut by concluding the simple way for them and push the damaging end to us. However , some mechanics will go way out to find what is the prolem and finaly get it fixed thus earn their respect as well.. in ur case you found the later . Do you mind to share what was the exact problem ? because i believe there is lots of E39 and E60 with similiar problem . some end up changing something not related and the problem persist. Hope you can share for everyones benefit . I dont mind driving up to penang as my parents house is in Sg Petani .. two in one .TQVm in advance.

I was told it's the compressor valve leakage and there're also repair kits available. Anyway, just met a guy couple of hours ago from ex AB who said he could fix the job too at similar price. Could contact Eric at 016 3188862, he is currently operating at USJ 6. All the best.....

I am having similar problem. Am at SSG now. This is the part they replaced. But they had to dismantle a whole lot of other things to get to it. Hopefully the sauna will turn into air con soon.

Hi Erest,

Am new to this forum. Thank you for sharing and its seems that this warm-cold-warm aircond is a legacy issue. Am facing the same problem with my E60. Can you share with me the contact and address of this Mr Chew of SSG?

Appreciate it.

Rgds

Had a similar problem with my 2004 530i. SSG fixed it without having to change the whole compressor. Highly recommended.

Hi. New here, and have a question:The car's in an authorised BMW workshop right now. When started, and at idle, the a/c blows out air that is not chilled, even though my a/c settings for both sides are at 18 degrees. It's not very pleasant on a hot day in a hot car. After driving it around for 5 mins or so, or getting up to highway speeds, cold air comes out and everything operates as usual. Everything functions as it should after those first few minutes, and the a/c will gladly pump out very cold air at the coldest settings. Now, the SA has said that the fault is with the magnetic clutch in the a/c compressor, and it would require RM5k for the compressor and a further RM400 for the drier to solve the problem. He did not elaborate further about the exact reason why the clutch isn't working, except to say that it's not engaging at idle speeds. So, since the system works fine once the car is rolling, I'm assuming that the clutch is either engaging at higher or extended revs, or that some other force due to the car's motion is getting the compressor to work.Given the above, it's going to be really painful for me to have to fork out RM5.5k to replace the whole thing considering it's just the clutch. Frankly I'm not certain if those few minutes of discomfort, which is usually negated by opening the windows for a bit, is worth replacing the whole compressor at that price. So the question is this: does anyone know of anywhere where they do a/c compressor repairs/rebuilds, where I can get the clutch fixed/repaired without having to fork out so much or having to purchase a new compressor? I've only ever been using AB/Sapura for repairs/servicing/etc for all the beemers, so I'm not sure which other workshop out there can sort this kind of thing out. Thanks in advance!
Wahlao u service at Sapura hats off man .... btw a/c compressor new unit oem can retail for about 1.2-1.5k sth like that if im not mistaken for E60 .
