Is BSRI covering only services and std maintenance parts? I was told by Quill salesman that it covers warranty, services and parts for 5 years. I find this hard to believe.

Can any bro expert here clarify this?

Not an expert, but this was what I thought at first too. Another salesman clarified that the WARRANTY on the car is ONLY 2 years.

The BSRI, whether 3 years or 5 years, only covers the parts & labour which are included in your servicing schedule.

If after 2 years your gearbox or something major dies, it's still your bill to pay.

Which sucks, because the major problems (and major bills) usually happen in years 3-5.

It would be really really attractive to have a full 5-year warranty, and will definitely help you sell your car in year 4 when you can offer the next owner a full 1 year warranty and servicing is already included!

Hi guys

Heard that 2011 stock is being cleared for 520d.
Comes with 5 years BSRI / 100k km + 5k discount.

Is it worth it? How much does a typical servicing cost? (Since diesel owners normally do early servicing).

Wondering if it actually offsets the drop in resell value of the car if I opt for 2012 model instead.

Thanks!

I've got the same problem too! Considering a 2011 or 2012 F10 520d.

I figure that if the BSR+I extension is only worth RM8k (what the salesman told me its worth) + RM5k discount = RM13k then I might as well wait till Feb for a 2012 car (again, salesman told me I can get a 2012 car in Feb).

I'm guessing that a December 2011 car will probably be worth RM20-30k less than a Jan 2012 car a few years from now, and your "discount" will probably not cover your depreciation loss.

Finally: what's making the decision easier for me is that my colour combo (sapphire grey / oyster black interior) isn't available in the current stock of cars :)

However: if the BSR+I is actually a full 5-year warranty as per what another bro claimed above, then it would narrow the decision. I would much prefer a full 5 year peace of mind...

Car Buying Guide 101 - never buy brand new car at the end of the year regardless how attractive the goodies is...but not many follow...so if already decided to buy...just go ahead and enjoy...

got oyster black and other black variant ?

i thought its only black / cinnamon / white ?

when i ordered mine it just silver/black.

imho , light color does make the f10 look bigger than then dark color paint. the dark color paint make the f10 look more agile and aggressive.
but then again i cannot tahan see car dirty if black means i have wash car more often. die

Interesting....Herbert, any idea how much was a e30 318i in 1990? Had always wonder how much my car cost when new. Thanks.

Never say never... If the perks thrown in are sufficient to cover the future value loss, a year end car is as good as a January car, in my humble view.
Furthermore, this is only true for Malaysian cars as resale looks at year of manufacturing and year of regsitration.

In sg, the second hand market looks at months of registration as the transfer fee is based on that. As such, a year end car has no impact on your resale value.
Many other factors such as mileage, condition and etc also are taken into account on equal weighting basis.

agreed, actually its like this

for 2nd car dealer they use whichever way they can to get the best lowest price from you , e.g. manufacturing year. but even my november f10 on realoem say its manufactured in july , even it out in November. thus you get lower value estimation based from them but not to owner directly .

for owner purchase its based on millage , e.g.

e60 year 2008 millage 30K ( local spec / not AP , cuz ap version 90% are fake millage ) : RM 155k
and e60 year 2009 millage 60K : RM 155k

is the 2009 cheaper or 2008 more expensive ?, which one you will buy ?

then of course there are the registration date factor, like some buy in december but registered at jan.

btw when you collect your car key and start the car the car already lost 10% value when drive out of show room.
thats why there are some who only purchase 2nd car.

I remember my 520i in 1990 cost RM138k on the road. So the 318i should be much less.

You are spot on!

I never buy new. Not because I can't afford it but because I hate the depreciation.

latest that i get is 5k discount + another 3.8k discount. with free tint , free number , free umbrella, full tank. but apparently the 5k discount is only applicable if u take loan from normal bank and not the bmw credit facility. only 2 unit left in ingress , 1 is display unit. both same color exterior and interior.

Not worth it for a 2011 car. Better wait for 2012 car and you save more with less depreciation.

Unless u got 10% but unlikely.

From a user's perspective, the 2011 and 2012 car is exactly the same car, with one less expensive than the other. From an investor's perspective, the 2012 car has a delayed depreciation of 10%. But if you are investing, you don't buy the 520d. Nobody buys the 520d for investment purposes.

bro, i think you should define 'what value means to you'.. only then you can answer wat your heart really want :4: some may not listen to the heart but uses calculative iteration before making decision :4: so, pick your choice bro :listen:

Actually... the folks who can buy a 520d probably worked and invested really hard to be able to afford one, and they got where they are now by being smart. They can afford a 333k car, but they will need to "stick with the budget" and get a good deal because they aren't gazillionaires. So they'd put in that same smartness and wait a couple of months so that when they finally sell the car they wouldn't lose as much in depreciation.

Now, if someone was, for example, buying a brand new M5... he'd probably be so rich that the "20% extra depreciation" is totally inconsequential to his pocket anyway, and he'd be someone who will "want it now" and buy a 2011 car in December, year of make be damned :)

Value as in $$ :)

Anyway, just so happened that there is 1 unit of the colour combo that I wanted, plus my insurance already going to lapse for 2nd year come Feb 2012...so I just pulled the trigger and went for the 2011 stock. I already waited 6+ months (let go of my previous reserved unit), so the itch by now too much to bear :D

The event cars are pretty good value though -- if you can live with the number plates. Numbers start with "4" (like WWB 4649, etc) Mileage anywhere between 184km to 300km. And they all smell and look brand new. RM 316k is 3 years BSRI. RM 321k for 5 years BSRI.
