Saw a E93 2007 325i UK specs (ie 3.0 NA engine) today. Car looked quite good, but when the engine was started from cold with the bonnet open, I was disappointed that the engine sounded very clattery.... almost sounded like a diesel engine. And I'm pretty sure it's not a pulley noise. The dealer told me that this spec of engine is like that.... not sure if it's BS or not. Is the 325i (3.0 NA) engine a direct injection ? I do know that direct injection engines tend to be noiser..Anyone own one of these engines ?? Is it normal ?.... My 323i certainly doesn't sound like this.I just wanted to verify, a friend of mine might be interested in the car....

cud be that engine is like that.

few weeks ago i went to BMW showroom and look at M3 coupe. When the car start fr cold, the engine noise was terrible and i complaint to the them. they guy said wait first brader.....true enuff after a while....wow i luv that M3 sound.

on the 335i, it starts off much less clattery and after maybe 30 secs, it settled down and sounds nice... on that 325i, it was still like that after a min or more.... maybe I didn't wait long enough ?

Thats the m3 cold start process, i actually like the sound. It warms up the cats and other stuff. The 325i (3.0l) i think should not sound like that.

My friend recently acquired and E93 320i CBU and true enough it sounds like diesel even when it's fully warmed up. It's said to be normal and it sound like that because of its high precision injectors.

I know what you mean on the 320i. Actually that 325i did sound something like that... Didn't think it's normal as well. Don't expect that kind of noise from the fabled inline 6 engine.

I think is the "known" N52 engine lifter tappet sound. common if the car is not driven hard enough over extended period of time as the engine oil is not properly circulated at the lifter.

Actually once you give it a drive, itll go quieter but i guess all cars are like that :)
